The nex t point run will be June 20 an d the newly resurrecte d Lightweights M.C. will be the h os ts. The Lightweights used to be th e num ber o ne club in District 37 and want to t ry it aga in. Their alu m ni reads like a who's who of rac ing so co me o n o u t an d su pport them. On Father's Day the tr ack will ho st an Ol d Timers ' Day wh ich is go ing to put so me fun back in yo ur life, th e day ending with a ween ie roast. If you're not an old timer, bu t yo ur bike is, y o u won 't have to run again st the 500TT Yammies unless yo u have to. It 's sure to be a lo t of fun and t ha t 's wh at it 's all abo ut. Some of the ladies had to be coaxed to the starting 22 line bu t once they were th ere the fun began. Donna Reinhardt won it but she's not a mother, so she had to split the purse with Barbara Springman ' Oe ff 's mother) , who was second. There was no nerfing, elb owin g, e tc . in the first turn but two of the gals were attempting to carry on a conversation wh ile running. His mom d id O.K. , but Jeff Springman didn' t fare so well in the 250 Expert . He managed to step o ff his b ike at the critical time but his Bul flipped over the tires righ t by the entrance to the track. That class had troubles in general; the rubber band pulled one of its rare hangups, right across a ra cer's chest, and Steve Woskosi got off on the top of the hill, losing his helmet in the process. Mike T idwell (Yam) won .it , takin~ three straight, with Eddie Beeson-(Yam ) second. On ce again Larry Bird had the spectators talking to themselves, . he 's still riding his little 200cc Triumph Cub and go ing pretty dam goo d . The 250 Junior go went to Wayne Rainey (Yam) in a race th at developed in to a pro cession. Most of the mo tos weren't to o exciting du e to a small turnout, after all it was Mother 's Day . Some ofthose moms really know how to shake a leg! Sandak let them in free but they had to work it out to earn their keep at Elsinore. sweeper was a flat roller coaster but nobody co uld stay on th e rail. Dick Doye started o u t with the Am ateurs an d eve nt ua lly mo ved o n to the Ex pe rt s for the res t of th e day ; with a sigh of rel ief fr om the Amateur gang! Gunder wins 3-wheeler at Canyon By Larry Owen PHOENIX, AZ ., MAY 2 Mini Beginner Bob Gunder, sporting a happy smile as his ticket was drawn, took home a Honda ATC-70 in the " You Don't Have to Win to Win Series " held at Can yon Raceway. Other prizes included a Ben Moto Star Helmet, a case of Bel-Ray oil and lo ts of free gate and rider passes. , As th e 125 Expert class banged off the gate, Chappy Blose (Hon) pulled the holeshot only to be passed by Dave Crawford (Hon) halfway through the first lap. Gary Dircks (Vam) held down third in his very first Expert race and Jerry Bagb y (Hon] was in fourth despite brake problems. The moto ended with Crawford pulling away for a big lead, but there was still more to co me .
