Harwood ROLAND, OK., AP RIL 11 On his way to a clean sweep , one of Gary Bowman 's Yam ah as br oke in th e last lap o f the last Open rnoto. But before th at happened he "Tapped up th e 125 field with two co nvincing wins . After working his wa y to the front in the Open clash, Bowman took the first moto, In the second moto, he and Wende ll Woolard battled for the lead un til Bowman pulled away with a half-lap lead in the late lap s. But a broken and jammed rear br ake put a stop to his sweep on the last lap , le tt ing Woolard by for a 2-1 an d first pl ace money. The best racing of the day began with the 250 start . Chip Day took the first moto fro m flag to flag . But on the way, Bill Eddy, Jerry Pate and Mike Palmer took turns at taking over. Pate faded in the late laps, and Bill Eddy rolled in behind Day for second. In th e second 250 moto, Day charged out fron t, but dropped back to fourth when a missed gear let t he other front runners by . Before the end of the mot o, Day had reeled in all but Eddy , thus ending the day for Day, who had to settle for a 1-2 and second place bucks. Gil ke y th o ugh, was n 't reliev ed o f all pressure, Mike Greco (Kaw) took up where Sanford left o ff and proved th at fourth overall, with the co nditio ns as th ey were, was well worth th e effort . Suzuki-er Alan Davis and Cycl e Cit y's Bob Burkhart {Hus) performed poetry in motion during Mo to One o f the Op en class. Burkhart su ffered the effects o f receiving all t he mud an d water Davis co uld grind th ro ugh , but fin al lap ex pertise and mech an ical difficu lties for Davis, gave Burkhart a well fought win. Wetmore 's Husk y rid er Walt Zettner and Yam ah a o f S.A.'s Dave Parker wer e key features in the ac qu isitio n o f sec on d and thi rd . Mo to One was frustra tion 's c hild with Park er being lapped in the th ird and Ze tt ner being lapped in th e fou rth , but with th e perseverance that every ~IX 'er t hri ves o n Par ker uri-lapped
