The uniqueness is made even more grasping as one zips along the course and looks up to see the ever watchful eyes of guards along the double banked rows of 15 foot fences. Held on private property, SRA has managed to grasp permission for this event under the watchful eyes of ranchers, farmers, Sierra Clubbers, arid other not too likely neighbors. Each of the 90 mile events ar e limited to 100 entries. This keeps t he crowd to a manageable size and st ill allows for some wild and wooly races aro und the 10 mile loop. To date, SRA has no problem gettin g experien ced permission to use the property, and in fact, has no lo cal oppostiion . Will wonders never cease. The 25 0 race turned out to be a wild see-s aw battle between J eff Cauby and Monty Lee, both riding buddies. Monty led it for seven laps only to misjudge a downhill t um and spent eno ugh tim e in the lo amy mountain soil to let Jeff slip by fo r the win . The fast times o f th e day, o n a wide open co urse, went to th e Open bikes. Averaging over 4 5 mph , Glenn Brown headed an all star cas t o n th e first lap o n ly to find the go ing too rough out fro n t and relinquished it to Bill Salt zman. Fastest Junior rider, Brad Nicks, was third gu ickest in the 50 bike field. Jeff Kerr (Yam) completed his ne cessary Novice points in fashion by winning his he at and the Novice Main event. He was followed by Tom Burcham and Geoff Lowe, both Yamaha mounted. Arizona J uni o r rider, Brad Nicks, led from start to finish to win the Junior Main, but really felt the pressure from Earl Roloff and Marty Hal kola. Earl was right beside Brad on the last lap , but crashe d , which allo we d Halkola to fmish seco nd, Layne Wright third. Ari zona favorite Art Fredenburg led th e Expert Main the first lap only to lose it to Chuck Palmgren a lap later. Gene Romero battled his wa y up froni after sliding into the first corner fifth. Romero and Palmgren b attled side by side until Rome ro finally took ove r the lead on lap 1 I.
