Miserable da y or not, Harley rider Paul Bostr om ca me aw ay from the IT $800 richer and several seconds ahead of Little John Hateley (T ri) in the Expert Main . Hateley had fast time with a 23 .27 2 on the Boise track but in the Main, Bostrom took the lead right away and was never seriously ch allenged. Randy Scott worked his way up to second and was ch ar ging hard when his bid for some cash was ended coming out of the big comer. Randy still man aged to remo unt and finish tenth. Bostrom came to ride this weekend and showed some real style on Friday night with his Mota Villa short tracker. Neither Bostrom or John Gennai (Bul) managed to place significantly in the short track, however, as Pau l ran into problems and Gennai squeaked through with a third behind Juniors Mickey Fay and Lester Huey. . The short track races didn't wind down until 2:00 A.M. One of the best runs of the nigh t saw Boise 's start track racers banging handlebars in the 360 Novice "A" go-round. Lew Alter narrowly aced au t Nate Gross in a couple of rough and tumble he ats with Denny Lee and Steve Cowles nipping at. their heels. Lee took lop honors for • J I "save of the night " by coming out of the so u th comer doing multiple tank-slappers and recovering wi th a ) 1 straightaway length wheelie . The crowd went bonkers and Denny's dad (Ho ward Lee, the club president) nearly went into cardiac arrest. Lee , Alter and Gross (alon g with the Owyhee Club's number one short track plate Bill Coo k] were just warming up for the Novice IT event. Microscopic Danny Atkinson wailed the large field of Mini Experts on his Yamrnie . Danny also contested the 125 Expert event but couldn't match ho rses with the 'sho es o n the 7.5 inch scooters. After staying up until 2:00 A.M., no one was really ready to "go motocrossin' " first th ing Saturday , but that didn 't stop th em! Practice was dynamite with the smooth wide track in p er fect sh ape. Several o f t he IT ty pes brought MX bikes and th is p rov ided an int erest ing mat ch -up in some classes .
