All the out-of-town ers were high on t he insi de an d providing fierce co mpetition. Chip Biery le t it be known t hat first class was the on ly way to go - an d h e vdid just that - battling back and forth with Lloyd Lon gmi re. Biery too k the driver's seat in mo ta o ne, only to find he had to patiently cope with Longmire's back-seat driving. That wasn 't the only headache .. . San Antonio's Kent Kottler did so me tough tailgating which was more hazardous to Dwi ght Tronson in the long run. Falling during the fourth lap could have cost Tronson th e race - but knowing that all 's fair in love and M.X - he saddled up and lassoed a well deserved fo ur t h . Houston's Danny Boren felt th at Biery ne eded a few tips start first, st ay on go ing first class first, you will be first and he did just th at for malo two. Longmire was o nce again awarded the position of back-seat driver un til Biery caught him off guard and passed with the " grea test of ease" on ly as the checkere d flag was given . The 125 Novice Division was simil ar to watching a scene from Ben-Hur (with a ca s t of tho usands). Th e largest class of the day yielded interesting and unusual resu lts . Both motos were led an d wo n by Randy Goff (Han) and that was the only sure thing. Th o mas Sto ffel (Han) was secon d in ove rall co mpetition , laid clai m to t he honor wit h 4-4 wins; J erry Rigby (Han) obtained his third overall wit h an easy second in Mota one and a well earned sixt h in Mota two. With riders dropping be ca use o f mech an ical pr oblems and some simply growing too wa nn too fast with t he heat of early af te rnoon, Bob Burkhart (Hus) stunned the spectators with speed and coolness in the second mota. • Cullifer, Thigpen zap Good Times THE BEST THERE IS. •A Pen nz o ll PrOduct Thirteen has never been considered a lucky nu mber - but add a zero to the end of it and that's how many riders showed for some '-~4IIli ~ V Frame Mods, @ Porting.
