dominate Firebird

Co mpe ting in the first CMC
sanctioned motocross event to be
held in this area, Yakima,
Washington's Ron Pomeroy (Bul)
was fast and smooth in his domination
of the 250 and Open Expert classes on
the new course at Firebird Raceways.
Pomeroy's consistent finishes in the 250
even t were enough to cop the overall
against stiff competition from Boise's
Kenny Galle~os (Yam ) and Mark
Gregson (Kaw) who came down from
his
usual
stomping
gro unds
at
Washougal to race wi th the Idahoan s.
Gallegos ro de his Honda practice bike to
back-to-back moto wins to scarf the
trophy and ca sh in the 125 division.
The man-made course (built by
Wayne Wrigh t for promoter Bill New)
was in great shape for p ractic e bu t
developed some downrigh t nas ty ruts
and wh oo ps be fo re the second m otos.
None of these conditions see med to
de te r Pomer oy , Gregson o r Gallegos
who contin ued to go fas ter as the day
wore on.
Wit h the exception of Tim Wright
(Hon ), Gall ego s had little co m pe tition
in the 125 race. The monoshocke r he
prac tic ed on wen t dough y be fore the
race and Kenny was forced to ru n his
"practice bike" (a Honda) in the two
m otes, lapping everyone except Nate
Gross (Hon) and Denny Lee (Yam) . Tim
Wright swapped the lead with Kenny .
