Th e familiar good lu ck coyote tail attached to his handlebars, Sward piloted a 400 "Green Meanie" smoothly over 76 m iles of ru gged Idaho desert at a 30 mph + to lead some 318 riders to the cold beer, trophies and cash . A fantastic Idah o day had the photographers an d spectators shedding their shi rts to catch so me ray s as the temperature so ared n ear 70 degrees . The beautiful weather, while it was great for watching, made things a bit warm for the ride rs though, and there were a lot of fellows co ming around wishing they hadn 't worn that windbreaker after all. Deep. sand and, in a coup le of sections, super-steep uphills, added to th e contestants ' perspiration factors.
