Melancon but Tim McWhorter gassed it and really had a drive going. It was no go though and he 'couldn 't catch Devlin but Eddie Lawsoncame up for second. The Novice Main was Eddie Lawson from the start, the bike perfonning perfectly. Mike Devlin gave chase with Dan Mullins righ t after. As lap s went down Don Grigsby broke ou t of the pack and started moving up. Devlin unloaded in tum four in a classic highside and then Mullins got o ff in tum three. Tim McWhorter was having bike problems and c;ouldn't kee p the pace. Grigsby moved right along to second and the Novice point lead, with Wyatt Scroggins third and Dale Reed fourth. The big bikes roared off the line and it was Morrison leading, quickly passed by Scott Pearson, then Davidson, Eklund, Foster and Dorsch. A battle developed between Morrison and Davidson while Pat Guthrie had to retire around lap six with a single cylinder Triumph. Davidson moved to third while Jorgy fans were watching him and th at magnificent Norton move right along toward the front from his last place starting position. D avidson went low under. Morrison and they were running side by side at times. Pearson overdid it but hung on somehow to third. And here came J orgy! With five laps to go, he started picking them off. Many times it was a blanket race as neither Morrison an d Davidson backed off. It was very busy out there! . On the fourteenth lap Jorgensen went to the inside down the front chute and calmly passed Davidson into first. Down the back straight on that last lap Eklund took a run at Foster but couldn't quite do it for fourth. It was a race almost three seconds faster than last week's time. • 19
