A light drizzle kept the track tacky and a few sloppily spots made it interesting. 1 8 Checking on the Masters class, it was Marvin Olson all the way on a bike that just wouldn't quit running with a clean sweep otthree out of three, followed by deiermined Jim Warden, who was making , his Master's debut today. Don Withers was right in there for third, with gate-crasher . Norb Brown on his 125 Suzuki in fourth. Norb had jetted so ' close that he seized in the first two motos, but ran hot an d steady in the third. ' When asked why all the pushing the bike arou nd in the firs t two rno tos, Norb replied that his bike was just [ike a new puppy ' - . gotta walk it aro und a while to teach it a few tricks. To insure a good ride in the third mo to , Norb tried to wave Marv in off before the ga te dropped. These o ld guys have more tricks than you can shake a cane at. On the Ex pe rt side, 01' re liab le Al Dennler whizzed around fo r first ove rall with Gerald Hutchinson showing his s tuff in h is first Expert ride with a so lid second. Amateur Warre n Fonteneau (Bul) whipped up a 1-1-3 for to p honors, with Dick Doyle right there in ho t pursuit for second. Crawfo rd ' RED MOUNTA IN, CAL., MA R. 28 How many weekends have you had a choice between riding in a Hare and Hound on one side of the road or an enduro on the other? Such was the ' case wh ;n the United Racin g Association staged their '76 version of the Good Times Enduro. A certain amount of confusion was apparen t when some enduro riders showed up at the desert racers eamp and vice versa. One hundred "mini-pinnacles" (tufa rock) created - a fantastic "Lost in Space" backdrop for the fun fam ily run. T he first loop was well-planned fo r the under 16 and powder puff set, with am using signs strategically loca ted throughout the co u rse. The m ost popular attraction was the "Sanford & Son" junkyard; it's di ffi cul t to u nde rs ta nd wh y all th at ju nk w as d umped . ou t there in the m id dl e of the desert. ' . The second lo op was interesting up to the beer break at Charlie's Place, and then it becam e challenging. T hose crafty .P.l3:.A . people set up a check on ly two miles ou t of Charlie's and caught a herd of us "with our route sheets down. " The res t of the course kept everyone mov ing rap idly and included an uphill that nearly wasted some riders. . on one of the neatest and most compact spectator type courses around. At the start of the last 125 Expert moto, Dave Crawford [Honj, jumped o ut to a. immediately demanding lead while the rest of the, pack tried to sort it all o ut on the first) lap . Meanwhile, hard charging Roge~, Jones (C-A) made his way through the, pack, picking off riders one by one, af terJ losing ' his gas cap on the start. Crawford , co n tinued to widen his lead as the bi!!, battle for th e next three po sitio ns had. j spectators on their feet. J on es' astounding pace had him wo rk ing on fourth on the lap before the white. but a spi ll, halted his chances . 250 Ope n Expert, David Crawford (Suz), was quickest off th e start but Roger Jones (C-A) grabbe d the lead on the firs t turn and shot out way ahead~ At the en d of the first lap David Andregy (Suz) was start ing t o pu O pressure on Crawford. Andregy slipped I into second and in the closing laps /; closed in on Jones for a very close second .at the checkered. . '
