Things star ted fly ing in the .first moto when Danny Lawson pu lled out front of the 40 man field, followed' by Wayne Young (Hon ) and Jeff . Kleve riding a Suz'!.ki. Young battled with Laws on for a sho r t while and then shot by the Hu sk y rider. Young op ened up ab ou t a l 0 second lead on the second ' p lace m an Lawson and as the rac e dre w close to th e end it looked lik e Young was home fr ee. No way . Young ran into some bad luck and h is bike just quit runnin g and he had to get off and push it to th e checkered fla g which was ab o u t ISO y ar d s away. Even with his lead on Law son , Youn g just co uld n ' t push fast en ough and Lawson shot by h im with on ly Young a few feet aw ay from the fla g. Jeff Kleve stayed in his same position to finish third. .
