The tie had to be bro ken by club membership cards and the winning club was Sonoma County Sport Cycle Association. The LeMans start, with over 80 riders on the line was done 'in two waves . Experts and Juniors took off , first ; Novices followed in two minutes. The co urse was well marked, but the first lap still found riders getting lost. The first mile was de ceivingly smooth going, as it was mostly laid on and around the motocross area. The riders were soon to discover the tricky sp o ts, and came to 'be be lievers in the "three arrows pointing down " th at indicated the next one. The leaders in each of the four races were co m ple tin g about 10 laps in the one and one half hours allowed before th e chec kered fla g went o u t. Bill McCormick (Yam) was 1-5, Tom Nixon (Hon) was 5-2. , The expected battle between Kevin Meyers (Yam), who practically owns first place in the Open Pros, an d Barney Newman (Bus) nev\,r materialized. In th e first moto Newman went nose firs t into the goopy mud just as Meyers shifted into overdrive to tak e a never Newman played ch allen ged lead. ca tc h-up the whole m oto to finish second. When the wire ' dropped in' round two Meyers was nowhere to be found. Apparently h is mount gave up. An all new back section added more to th is already sp ec tacu lar natural terrain MX track. Tim Worth (Hon) led the first moto oft the 125 Pros around the first turn only to fall coming off the jump in front of the announcing tower. Randy Johnston (Ho n) quickly grabbed the lead holding on for almost the entire nice. Steve Par ker (Hon) go t a break wh en Johnston missed a gear, allowing Parker to slip by and take the win. In th e second 125 Pro moto Tim Worth was determined to show everybody he could ride a' mo torcycle with ou t -fa lling o ff. Worth did just th at, as he to ok th e hol eshot , stretch ed ou t a co m fo rt ab le lead , an d took the , win without even breathing hard.
