Eventual winner Jeff Bott zapped by on his Yamaha and took the lead. Rising speedster Bill Misener grabbed the Novice win. The Open Beginner event was uneventful since Gene Hust (CZ) wired the whole thing for his first SRA win. The 101-200 bash kept everybody on edge and wasn't decided until the final lap. Stirling Hopson (Hon), Jeff Hollie (Yam), and Warren Barr (Hus) were within touching distance for the entire 35 miles until leader Hopson turned around to sneak a peek at the most inopportune time and ended up watching from the bushes as his first place went on by . DirtY 01' men at DeAnza By Lucious LeRoy SUNNYMEAD, CAL, MARCH 21 32 AMC welcomed the Over the Hill Gang to a bash of bodies at DeAnza Park on an unusually hot .and dusty day, Dusty that is, except for one wet stretch on an extremely slippery downhill ' that was watered before the second moto which brought on some bad spills and sliding. Everyone managed to get through with a minimum of casualties , but on top of the hill a t the Am ateur s tart a pileup occurred which almost blocked the tr ack. Our resident retard , Ron, got philthy with Phil who goo sed Garry who almost ruptured Rusty. After it was all over, everyone was back up and running except for Goosey Garry who had to retire his bike for the day. In the Beginner class, Weinie Wayne rode well and stayed away from all the extra activity for a first pl ace flnish . Following was Fickle Frank, delivering the Fickle Finger of Fate to Toilet Tom who is looking for a new throttle for his bike. Halffast Herb was a little more than that to finish first in the Novice class . Tipsy Tom got a bit tipsy on the seventh lap and lost rust place but hung on for a second. The Inter m ediat es rode without much incident and Lewd Lou turned in a winning p erformance, followed by the Sycho, Sil/:. The Amateurs were led by Janitor Jerry sweeping a grand slam away from Jerky John. Retarded Ron, after he stac_k.;d the rest of the class up like dominos took a third. Honky Herb liked the uphills, bringing out his 125 so he could finish seventh. Someday he'll be a threat to the 125 pros, maybe before he rea ches 50. Lanky Larry (ho hum ) go t another first pl ace in the Expert class , but we go t some guys gunning for him. Second pla ce Corroded Carlos was too smooth to call him corroded. No major casualties .and everyone smiling at the end makes for a fun Sunday. . • Results in Results Section "Bones BountY" still stands By Tom Blattler IRWINDALE, CA L., MARCH 19 In t he first week of the $50 125cc Pro Bou nty on David Taylor and Gary Den ton, Taylor was without a sponsor (his bike wasn't running too quick) an d Denton was out with a broken ankle. Dave Carlson had new I 976 Miller-Mane Honda under him and the bounty was history with Carl son the easy ' victo r. However, the management decided that the first week was a little one-sided, so they put up the $25 again on Taylor. a • This time , though, there was no denying the guy th ey ca ll "Bones" . as Taylor totally dominated each o f the three five- lap motos to claim the overall victo ry . Actu ally the only race of th e night in the 125 Pros was for .seco n d after Carlson pulled out of the race with m echanical di fficu lties. llehind T aylor in the overall was J ohn Atwood, who has been improving ea ch week, followed by Eddie Clark , St eve Schilling and Mike Haas. Maico-mounted Davy Carlson rode three, very co nsistan t motos in the 250cc Pro division to claim the overall class honors. The 250 Pros supplied the finest racing of the night and the opening moto was one of · the most exciting races of the seaso n here at Irwindale. Jeff Vidic, Bill Rubly, Carlson, Val Tamietti, and Chuck Lunde were bumping handlebars and wheels, each hoping to move past the guy in front of him. However, the maneuvers were to no , avail and each held their respective spots in a super race. Again m the second moto, it was your basic two-wheeled roller derby as the same five went at it, but this time Carlson held on for the win. The fin al five-lapper found Bill Rubly outclassing the rest 0 f the field for an easy win. Carlson finished second to take the overall with Vidic third in the moto and second overall. •
