Dave Longcor, running second from the beginning, got close to Wilson before dropping to 17th. Randy Losh moved into second, and held it until the last few seconds when something went wrong with his Bultaco, Floyd Davis got by him to take second. Davis had had his hands fullthroughout the race with Kim Reeg challenging when he stalled it in a tum. Losh finished the race on foot pushing across to take third, the Bultaco had blown the crank! In the second moto Kevin Henry (Bul) , Longcor and Davis took over the first three places right off the line. Lo ngcor and Henry kept trading off for the lead. Davis was closing in by the ti me Henry had moved o ut a lit tle from Longcor. In the last few lap s, Longcor and Wilson moved in when Dav is los t control long enough to let the m by. In the last lap Wilson went down for a DNF and Davis was back up to fourth with Kim Reeg again on his heels. Eleven-yearold Garrison started the day off by bagging the 56-89cc Expert honors over Bakersfield's Rot; Ely . (Yam). Ely. was the lead man through lap four of the six lap Main with Garrison (Yam) running a close second. Garrison pulled by on lap four and went on for the win . Garrison ' had to play catch-up again in the 10 0cc Expert' Main when Kirk Smi t h (Suz) grabbed th e lead off the line and managed to keep it for two lap s. Smith · fell victim to the hard-chargin' Garrison in the sweeper, and it was Garrison going on for his se co nd victory of the day while Smith followed. Derek Land (Yam) was at the point of the 125cc Experts when he went down on lap two and in the p rocess gave way to a furious battle for the lead between Jack Jones (Suz) and Danny Jones (Kaw) . With literally no dead air space between the two Joneses through laps 2, 3, 4 and 5, Jack Jones blew his hard-fought-for lead in tum three of the . final lap when he laid it down. Danny Jones ' who was only inches behind; ' avo ided contact with the downed leader and went on for the 'firs t place iron.
