Tro~hy Over The Hill Gang attempts to tame Carlsbad .By Lucious LeRoy CARLSBAD , CAL, MAR. 7 Under the blue skie s of a perfect day, the gang was hosted by AMC on the slightly shortened International track. Forty-four riders gulped down their Geritol and pro ceded to attack th e ' course with immense · enthusiasm. I think! Experts ended the day with five riders, out of the six, tied in the second moto with six points each. The win went to Jungle Joe with Stubby Steve, · on his 125, close on his heels. Corroded Carlos rode a steady pace to tack down a t hird. Beautiful Bruce was trying to outdo t hem all but lost it in the second moto and had to settle for a fourth. The gangs n ewest Amateur, Goosey Garry, was chased very hard by Jerky John, who's back after a long absence because of an injury. One of the most promising 'n ew Amateurs out of the Intermediate class, Ruptured Rusty, got a third. Sy c h o Sig whipped up the Intermediate class with a clean sweep. Lewd Lou exposed himself to a second with a very good ride and told me next time he wants a 40-minute moto, Halffast Herb made it look easy in the Novice class with a long overdue win. Tipsy Tom locked up a consistent second showing, chased by Sorry Sandy , one of the gan gs strong desert riders. The largest entry of the da y , again, was our Beginner class . Fickle Frank a fresh member showed them around the track with our gang buster, Weinie Wayne, trying to take the lead awa y . Juicy Jim showed how wen' he liked the track by showing up third. Our two younger members, Bang Bang Bo Bo and . Bullheaded Bill showed how young they Time. for Enduro and Rally Riders In the 250 Pro class it was apparen t that Will Harper (Mai) had n o peers as he swe p t bo th motos fo r the ove ra ll. Th er e was a not iceable in cre a se of co mpetitiv eness in Mike Pillar (Mai) in th e secon d moto as he grabbed t he holes ho t bu t on the fourth lap Harper managed to p ass Pillar and by the end o f the race had bu ilt up a co mfortable lead . PiIlar finished seco nd overall for the n igh t. The 125 Pro class be longed entirely to Bobby Kline (Hon) as he explo de d into the lead ta king two ' of t he easiest wi ns o f the nig ht. The 125 Int ermed iat e class , for the past few wee ks, has bee n th e so le pr opert y o f Mark Boren (Hon). Howe ver , a new threat, Steve Hadley (Hon) , took a first moto win with Boren finishing third. Boren grabbed the lead in the second moto followed by Hadley . At times Boren see med to be keeping his bike on the track through sheer strength and determination and in the final . laps was frantic as Hadley tried desperately to break into the lead . With a first and a second Hadley too k the overall win and broke Boren's winning streak leavin g Boren to finish second. Dave Oin ton recen t1y switched to a new Maico and continued to win in the 500 Intermediate class. Becau se of the lack of riders in his present class he may be robbing himself and the spectators of the opportunity of some real com pe tit io n by not switching to the 250 class . • Results in Results Section.
