Both Lou and Mike's bikes went so ur and he found himself all . alone on the track, his win guaranteed. • The 250cc Expert Twin half-mile looked like it had an upset winner as Wayne Rainey , on a single, blew the doors off in the semi. In the main AI Glover grabbed the number one spot and Charlie Summers nipped Wayne -Qut of second at the 11th hour. Wayne, . however, had no trouble winning the 250cc Amateur/Expert TT over Mike Allen and Charles Petty. Danny Perkins rode his 125cc f1yin' Honda to victory on the half-mile against the 250cc Amateurs, since not one 125 showed up to challenge him. David Callaway matched the win from Fre d Conover on th e last tum of the last lap of the 250cc Novice TT with . Gordon Loar third. Gordon then turned the ta bles o n David by taking t he half-mile. Mike Paulson was the only racer to hit for two , winning both the TT and half-railer 125 cc No vice classes. _ Perris ST & TT By Brad Miller PERRIS, CAL., MAR. 7 Ninety riders rolled into Perris Raceway for th e weekly IT and short track races . A few ch anges were made to the track, including the addition of two jumps, which made for an exciting TT. Darren Penrod gave Mike Tidwell a run for his '. mo ney in the TT 125 Amateur/Expert race and after three ' grueling motos Darren came o u t on top. A bare wheel's length ke p t Pete Hames from tieing with Jay Bales w ho came in first in the! short track Min i Amateur/Expert class. Rick Marquis and Artie Nay battled to the end in the TT 500 Amateur/Expert class with Rick taking the win by one point. The class that's the most fun to watch is the Mini 50 and these fellows give it all they got. Only two of the regulars showed up this week, Ed Robison and Russell Brown. Big Ed, as they call him, won both the short track and TT. _ Results in Results Section. Harper spells double trouble atAMEMX lC. Agajanian presents By Ted Titmas VALENCIA, CAL., MARCH 5 In spite of some chilly evenings, AME continues to draw large entr ies for its Frid ay n ight motocross and Will Harper (Mai) once again st eamrolled th e 250 Pro class. . Harper had taken a co m fo rt ab le win in the firstmoto, but in the second,J eff Wrigh t (KT M) took the holeshot and his fast riding reflected a possible upset to Harper who wa s in hot pursuit . On the sec o n d lap, Harper tried to pass Wright on the back straightaway, both bi kes touched, b ut Wright managed to ho ld his ground. On th e fourth lap , unable to see as his goggles fogged up with steam, Wright fumbled to remove them, giving Harper an d Kenny Zahrt (Oss) an opportunity to pass. Zahrt made severa l unsuccess ful attemp ts to pass - Harper, but followed him home in second, taking second overall. Wright finished t hird, for th ird overall. The 125 Pro and Intermediate cla sses were ' combi n ed, whi ch g a ve Intermediates the opportunity to show the Pros how thin a line exist s be tween the twp. Particularly Intermediate rid er Mark Boren (Hon) . Boren , who diced all nite with a n umber of Pros, finished first in class , and wo uld have been fourth overall in the Pro class . One of the few Pro riders least affected by the combination of classes was Bob Klien (Hon) who co mple tely dominated both motos. The 500 Pro class was another benefit race for Will Harper (Mai ) as he garnered the win in both mo to s. Dave Haugh (Mai) finished second overall, fo llowed by Mike Sixberry on his newly acquired Maico which he purchased with money he won on a recent tri p to Las Vegas.
