Ch apin went on to win the moto wi t h Tamie tti seco nd bu t fITSt overall. Second overall wen t to Vidic and Carls on was left with a disappoin ling th ird. The 500cc Pro class was all Tamietti , as Val rode a 4 00cc Maico to the easy win in the opening two five-lappets and coasted in third in the third moto. David Taylor (Hon) had the overall 125 Pro win in his hip pocket after winning the first two motos and was easily leading the third round when he lost the stinger off his expansion ch amber. With the last-lap flag coming out, Taylor's Honda apparently seized up , and the guy they call "Bones" was done for the evening. John Atwood captured the last moto and the overall with Steve Schilling (Hon) second and Taylor third. • Results in Results Section. 4 n R.A.C.E. HSMX . By Rex Reese . CORONA, CAL. , MAR. 5 Upland High blew away Poly and Corona as their talented contingen t of riders had no proble':l~ in doing away with the competition during this cold, cold Friday night in -the latest round of high school motocross team acti on . Goerge Baker (Upland) led a parade o f riders in both the 125 an d 175 Senior for Enduro and Rally Riders classes, with unbelievable six and eight second leads, wire-to-wire on his new Yamaha Mono. What wa s so unbelie vable abo u t his performan ce was t ha t j ust befo re he left home , he de cided to take a run up and down his stree t. In the process , he looped his bike , tweaked the forks and handlebars, and acquired a good case o f road rash. Out on the track he had about three inches of fork travel since the tweak job let all th e air out. Nevertheless, he managed to get the holeshot in every moto and clean up both classes. Poly was nowhere near touching Upland's lead, and could only place as high as second, while in many cases Upland would have the fITS t two places locked up. Only in the 250 Intermediates was there somebody else, and that was Danny Jean of Corona over Upland's Gino Filippi. Final scores for the night were : Upland 727 points, followed b y Poly with 261, and Corona with 98. There were a couple of crashes, the wont in the 250 Novice/Intermediate battle when Poly rider Steve Sparks got sideways over the straightaway jump, highsided, then got centerpunched by two other riders, He was sent to the hospital with a broken leg; • David Williams (Yam) took the Pro victory in the midst of some chicanery by two T8cM riders who decided to chan ge classes in ' order to avoid a ' possible defeat from Williams. Winning didn't mean as much to Dave as he _would have liked to have raced against these gu ys who rode more like sh moes th an pros. • Results in Results Section, Amazing new electronic digital CHRONO-COMPUTER tells you exactly where you-should be during every second of the event!
