Three of the best Experts around rode their broken motorcycles to ~ a finish in th e first mota. Chuck Czerwinski (Maic o ) got the hole shot but several riders were bo t tle d up in the first tum because Mike Cook got hit by Sherman Schneller. Mike went down as did others, but all got things together and re-entered the race. Mean time Chu ck opened up a lead that looked as if he wo uld run off and leave them all. The mota went this way until the half way f1"1!:. John Dallaire who had abou t a last place start had worked his way through and was sitting in fo urth place. Chuck still had the lead with Andy Segale (Bul) second, Sta n Rice (Kaw) third and She rman Sch ne ller (Suz) fifth . The next lap Andy Sega le was the new leader and Chuck came by making a lot of n oise ; his expansio n chamber was separated fiom the header but he was still running. A few lap s later Andy Sega le starte d to slow and when he wen t by > one co u ld see his rear wheel was going lop-sided . Stan Rice m oved into sec on d dropping Chuck back to third. then it was J ohn Dallair e 's tu m. Now Andy had to give up the lead and in the mean tim e Dallaire got by Stan Rice. Mota one ended with John in the lead and the win ner, with Stan Rice sec ond, Chuck Czerwinski th ird and Sherman Schneller fourth. Chu ck had ten broken fron t spokes as well as a broken cha mber. Andy Segale had a broken rear wheel and Jeff Little a broken front wheel. Like all good Maico riders, Chuck has a tool box full of spokes but the down tube for the chamber got run over and was a mess. Chuck's p it crew pounded out the down tube trying to make it round again while others were wo rking on the front wheel. They did have it ready for mota two. About to make the Big Pounce on one of Spillway's many deep, sandy berms. Mota two again it was Chuck with the hole shot followed by John Dallaire , Stan Rice and Sherman Schneller. This time Chu ck held the lead for awhile, then J ohn took over. When the halfway flag came out, Sherman got on the gas and flew by Stan Rice who was not si tt ing stil l. On the back straigh t, Sherman got his break and went by Chuck. Now Sherman set his sigh ts on John Dallaire way out in front. Sherman did take over the lead but with a fo urth in moto one, the win still gave him second overall. • i0 ... m ... en ... Z > Z 0 ~ en Q. 0 <[ ~ ~ w 'is. W N " w en Z l=;~ ~~ a:'" m e ~ Q.
