T he first race o f interest was the 12 5 Pro in which Jim Ha le (Ho n) , AME numbe r o ne p o int holder, took an overall first. Zahrt m o ved up th rough the p ack and too k a sec o n d for t h ird overall in spite of his injury and a dead last st art. T he 25 0 Intermediate held special interest for so m e spect ators at In d ian Du nes, part icu larly th e m o t her of Ric h T itus (Su z), wh o rode t hi s chilly February eve with a fever o f 10 2 degrees . Mai co , showed his rid in g ab ility t o be equally as strong in this AME prem iered its night MX season at Ind ian Dunes with a $700 Pro purse. class as it is in the 250. Harper won bo th m o tos and J o n Miller ( Bul) did so me fine riding in this ra ce, finishing third. • Palfreyman/ GardnerBag Sidehack Series Win By Steve Torpey T RA BUCO CANYON, CAL., F EB. 22 Eleve n sidehacks showed up for the second ra ce of their ten race Pro l\1X seri es. The racing was cl ose in bo th m otos as th e track, while ok for so lo bikes , was just t o o n arro w for the sidecars to p ass in the tu rn s. This tended to bunch the field up wit h th e p redictable strai gh taway drag race ge ttin a little hairy as the hacks br aked for th e turns. T he lightwei ghts, (mostly homebuilt sidecars wi th 250-4 0 0cc sol o bikes used as t he basic unit) were represented b y fo u r teams. The Yam 360 of Holl an d /Harris tu rn ed in especiall y go o d rides in each moto t o pl ac e fir st ove ra ll in thei r class. In the first moto the Sanner bro th ers Ho nda i 50 ju m ped into the lead bu t half-wa y through th e race , a mistake allowed t he Husky 50 4 of Hall er /Swensen to take o ve r. However, with three lap s remaining, lIaller's m otor seemed to go a way , allo wing the T ri u m p h i 50 of Crandall /Swart to forge into the lead for the win . In the seco nd moto , Bart Crandal and Ron Swart gu nned their T riumph Wasp in to the lead for what appeared to be the ove rall win , only to ru n in t o trouble on th e last la p and finish fourth . Pa lfreyman /Gardne r ro d e a steady race to bag the moto win and the ove rall. Ho lland a nd Harris kept the crowd jaz zed by screaming their Yamaha to a WFO second place finish and a first over a ll in the lightweight class.
