' Riders pla nning to race in any of these series m us t earn q ualifier points a t an accredi ted AMA Natio na l Qualifier, T he schedu le is as follows: March 7th (Phoenix), March 14 (Tucson), Ma rch 21 (Valley Cycle Park) , March 28 (Rawhide), April 25 (Santa Cruz), May 2 (Medford , O regon), May 9 (Fresno) and May 23 (Albuquerque). For all National Championship events in 1976 the accep t ance or refusal of any rider's entry is determined by the following criteria. National fields are "lim ited to 80 riders with first preference , given to Expert-ranked racers. Next in ' lin e are Novices who have a "grading" from racing in qualifiers. Final consideration, if the field has not -reach ed the maximum of 80 riders, goes to Novices with no grading. For the international Trans-AMA .Series the process is different, with a certain number of the 40 available starting positions reserv ed for fo reign entries. Experts who wish to co mpete in the Trans-AMA Series will be selected in 1976 according to the num ber of nat ional points they earn thro ug hout 19 76. If th e field is not filled by foreign en tries and AMA Experts, Novices will be added with preference going to those wi th t he high est grading, " It is very important fo r rid ers to compete in professional q ualifiers if t hey wish to race in n at ional or internatio na l even ts ," Mik e Di Prete co m me nted. "Gaining e n try to a nat io nal or in te rna tional event is a high ly -co mpetitive proposition and q u alifiers are one of th e m o st import ant ways a racer can move u p th rough the ra n ks.
