J ors ki and Wynn swapped firsts and seconds, with Wynn taking the deciding moto . • Roberts romps at Woodville By Steve Jones WOODVILLE. TEX., FEB . I The first round of the South East Texas Har e Scrambles Champ ionship was m et with perfect weather and 338 entries. The lo cati on was t he Banana Hill area south of Wood ville, Texas, and was sponsored by the Texas Gulf Coast :o.I /C. The Scrambles series was set primaril y fo r Texas riders , but his event proved to be a battle between t he Texas and Lo u isian a riders. At 12 :00 noon th e Open class bikes star ted ou t for the two ho urs on the 10 mile loop. T he course was of true ch am p io nship ca liber, giving the rid er s pr actically every type of terrain im a ginable. The r iders found ro ller -coaster fire lan es, hills, cree ks, open fields. fire ro ads , ti ght trails . and big pi ne tree forests . With in an hour it was easy to see who had prepared bikes and bodies for th e test. The mo st cha llenging part o f the co urse for th e riders was th e ti gh t woods. -T h is is w he re endurance and skill were needed most. Although t he leads cha n ged ne arl y every lap in the individual classes, one man totally do mina ted the event. As rel axed at th e finish as he was at th e start, C. A. Ro bert s of Houston was th e only rider to make eight lap s on the super tough co urse. C. A. and his 400 Hus ky averaged nearly 40 miles an hour in co mpa rision to the 28 for the majo rity of the other riders. • ~ Boulder Ridge Runners race against noise t C.!) r--. Seems as C'J th ou gh a local cit izen up th e road a pie ce had co mp lained and it had to go to the co un ty fo r t he fin al decision . Wit h th e co u nt y chec king levels from th e road and the S.R.A.C. checkin g at tech inspection th e racing pr ogram go t underway promptly at II :0 5 a .m , Five minutes later th an ad vertised ; n o t ba d at all co nsi dering th e rather lar ge turnout at th e tra ck. The agre ement, for t ho se do it in t he dirters interested, is if the co unty finds in favo r of th e club a fu ll year 's racin g ac ti vities can be scheduled. TI,e 12 5 No vice riders sho wed th e spe ct ators close racin g as Mike Surratt, Steve Balko and Duane Akiyma put o n a show o n a warm da y th at promoted a th aw in the ad rena lin tu bes. Surratt hung on to win ov era ll with Balko holdin g on th e second. The 12 5 B gro up contin u ed th e hurry up cha rge with Bill Hoff and J eff Price taking the top spots resp ectively. Meanwhile back at the line th e 250 Nov ice riders were ready and did the y sh ow i t. This was an interestin g race. While it was reall y de cided at th e start, the obvio us co n fide nce shown by a good p osition in the firs t moto showed up in spades in t he second. Take for ex ample Randy (Hus) Fit e ), in only th e .r:J >- l-< ~ ;j l-< u ~ " se cond ra ce o f h is career an d with a middle of th e pack start in the first moto, he decided to w ick it in the second and come o ff the line first . He hel d on to this lead , even though no t way out front, to take the seco nd mo to . Randy Mayer was co nsisten t enough to do it for first overall and St an Ad adms ca me in second. Hey!
