The Cook/Holladay team was banking
on its modified Honda MR·250 to repeat
last year's win in SCORE's Parker 400. But
it looked especially rough this year.
Wet sand meant lots of traction and
90 mph speeds. But brutal strains on riders
and bikes.
Steve Holladay started back in 11th
spot, but managed to take the lead in their
class before handing the bike over to Wayne
Cook. Wayne ran the 134 miles through the
California desert , then turned it back again.
Holladay completed the last leg of the
105-mile Arizona section.and brought the
Honda home for the team's second 250cc
win in as many years.
.
But no way was it easy. Out of 335
starters, over half failed to finish. Even the
Honda didn't come through completely
unscathed.
"Our kickstand started to rattle;'
said Cook, "so we took it off.'
HONDA
