Unfortunately John, Franklin (Pen ) took a hard fall , putting him out of th e co m pe titio n for th e rest of the day. The second mota saw Denny Enochs (Ya m ) lead through the first tum with Milan Garrett (Man), Perry Klassen (Ha n) , Clarence Derric (Bul) and Jim Franklin (H us ) following in close order. Enochs see m ed to drop off the pace slightly as Garrett moved into the lead . Perry Klassen (Ha n ) pressured Derrick hard, however was unable to overta ke the Bultaco rider. Jim Fr anklin (Hus ) finished third with a 3-3 performance. Husky rider Billy Woods was a ble to overcome a bad finish in the first m ota to completely devastate the Open Pros in the second mota . Gary Kirkorian (Bul) was second. CMC central MX at Madera Lakes' Puyallup goes CMC By Duane Garrett MADERA LA KES, CAL. ;JAN. 11 By Sue Sy kes Tim Worth (Hon) , Milan Garrett (Mon), and Carl Nelso n (Suz) were the top money winners today in the 125 , 250, and Open Expert classes. Referee John Franklin and his crew kept the track in excellent condition. Two hundred and twenty six (2 26 ) riders made for some exci tin g racing throughou t the da y . The first mota of the 12 5 Ex perts, Randy Johnson (Ha n ) pulled the hole shot with Tim Worth, Steve Parker and Jack Keese in hot p ursuit. Tim Worth moved in t o firs t wi thin one lap , st re t ch in g out a lead a nd hold ing it. Kee se (C-A ) passed Par ker and th en J o h n son to ta ke over second. Tom Niggi (Han) overcame a poor start to finish third with Steve Parker (Han), fourth. In the second moto Mike Barnet (Han) started out first but was soon passed by Jack Keese (C-A) . Tim Worth (Han) recovered from a poor start to pull in to second. O n the last lap Worth was just ab le to ove rtake Keese . PUY ALLUP, WASH.,-JAN. 11 Puyallup Raceway Park is now a part of the growing CMC family and will run classes to co mply with their ru les. Racing will be at J Puyallup only until !\lay - then th e season n ight opener will put S.I.R. ba ck on the schedules. The co n d it io n s claimed their t o ll again as many of the 250 racers and their machines gave way to the mud a nd rain. Flying Ed Davis (Han) rode a wire to wire race bo th m oto s o f 125 Pro action - ta king hom e t he winner's p urse and a new pipe co urtesy of WF O from Kent, Washington. Davis got the holeshot each time the gate fell and lengthened his lead with every lap. Oregon 's Mark Gregson (Kaw) had his fill of hard luck all day - entered all three Pro classes and couldn 't pick up a money place in one - very _u n us ual for this super whiz kid. Randy Schweizer rode , a new Kent Cycle l\la ico to a fine win in t he Open Pro di cing. Schwei zer scored in be h ind G regso n in m ota one b u t turned it on nex t ti m e o u t and earned his money. Ron Pomeroy m ade h is way o ver the mountains to cr an k it out in th e 250 Pro an d Open Pro classes. Pomeroy had his best ride in mota two of the 250 outing - overtaking Gary Potts (Su z) and then riding his Bultaco off like a house afire to take the flag. 41 riders bat tl ed it out in heat motos of 12 5 B dicing - so the first time out was mighty im p or t an t. Chad Southard (Ho n) and 'Duane Marker (Yam) were winners of their motos a nd had the fun and excitement of the run of( with Southard taking home the first overall. _ TT scrambles By Cosmic Cat & CO. BAKERSFIELD, CAL. , JAN. 18 Scott Dinkins led the 125cc Expert class wire to wire whi le Richard Escalera (Yam) and Kevin Oole y (Yam) diced ' it out for second. Wheel to wheel , Ooley and Escalera b attled, b u t at the checkers it was Escalera by one bike length. T he 2 0 0cc Exper t ac tion saw the clo ses t race o f the day with Can -Am pilot Ke n t Bowser a nd Bultaco-rn ounred Ricky Hicks se tting the p ace for the rest o f th e pack. Bowser and Hicks to ssed th e lead back and fo rt h and were no more than a bike len gth apart when in tum o ne o n lap three Bowser took the lead and Don Sing (Suz) sn uck by IIicks for seco nd . Bowser bobbled in the sweeper and Sing shot by. Bowser came back b ut Sin g w as still fighting and won the battle, leaving Bowser with second and Hicks third. Ronnie Sing (Suz) took the early 250 . Expert lead but Frank Adamo (Ya m ) was right behind him. Lap three took Flyin ' Frank b y Sin g and Adamo stayed there leaving Sing second and Mark Powers (Yam) third. 1 9
