To m Pulver co m men ted that it was probably one of the " best paying series" Phoenix has offer ed, and the money would probably " p ay off his bike. " During the 250 Expert race, Pulver crashed and suffered a shoulder separation and will be out of competition for awhile. 250 Expert Doug Raines (Kaw) pulled the holeshot the first mo to with Gary Wells (Ho n ) in second and Mark Mayo (Kaw) in third. Chris Choisser (Yam) was right behind and tried first the o utsi de , then inside but just couldn 't get clo se en ough to stu ff it under Luck. Mo to tw o was rough and rowdy. Chris Choisser was rust off the line this ti me followed by J eff Wise . By the t hird lap , Luck had gotten by Wise and had h is sights set on Cho isser , Lap four came to a close and it was Luck, Wise and Jeff Morris, o ne, . two, three to finish, Chris was o ut of it. Luck was once again off and running in moto three, leaving the rest of the Spe cial Novices to worry about themselves . A group of fifteen 250 Novices were out to fight for the three trophies. Mike Krugh started off with a bang but his shot wa s somewhat m u ffl ed by Chris Cho isser. Mike led the rust lap , but Choisser dived under Krugh to take the lead and held the position to the finish . Heat two went to Ho nda mo un ted J eff Wise. The time came to decide the vietor of the 250 Novice m ain an d after the snap start it was Mike Alle n (Yam) , J ohn Luck (Kaw) and J eff Wise. Mike had a co mfort ab le lead and Luck was a so lid seco nd, bu t Ch oisser was giving Wise a run for his money.
