Riding a Doug Schwerma creation , the likeable pro did a good jo b despite th e fac t that he hadn't ever ridden such a small track, wasn ' t prepared with tires and, the real biggee , he was riding a pseudo - "foe-bar", parallelogram suspended Yamaha. Hurst man aged a heat race second behind Gennai and a pole in the back row fo r the Main but co uld n 't get together with t he starter and wound up 10th. For Gennai, it wasn't much to worry abo ut taking the lead fro m the git -go and lead in g AI Ludwigsen and Rusty Davis to the checkered, a ctually lapping Hurst . The win was wo rth enough points to give him a co m fo rtab le lead in the class and a slight edge in th e o ver all ti tle , with but one race to go . • 0-35 TT scrambles By Cosm ic Cat & CO. • ~ won . Returning to a regular Friday night, on ce a week program, the o utdated fairgrounds building was its usual cold dank se lf wi th a very enthusiastic audience and a full complement of Experts. With much crashing and bashing, a full program was run smoothly en o ugh by the Sonoma Cou ntry Sports Cycle Association. . Big winner of the night wa s Jim Mertens in 360 Expert. Mertens got the early jump and led Manuel Crummett from Reno and Geoff Lowe from Sali nas to the big poin ts and money board. It was 10 big points for the win and a good lead on the new White Plate list. Faria's win in the 250 class over Howard Mo ore and Bria n Pecore was just two pain ts ba ck . Delcay fell in the heat after ta ngling with J ack Peder sen . The second moto Myers got a go od holeshot with Neil right behind. On the second lap , Neil had passed Bob. Neil did his best to shake Bob, bu t he cou ld n o t. On every comer Bob was ri ght there. Dick Man n had m oved into th ird and was holding. Neil and Bob ha d too m u ch dista nc e for Dick to catc h , and h e h ad to settle for third. Chris Grewer, o n his 250 Husky, had two easy wins in the 250 Expert division.
