All of the riders who were mentioned had either signed a contract or given MediaMax a firm commit ment to appear and ride. In the case of Jim Ellis and Jim Pomeroy, they were injured prior to Anaheim an d were stil l possibles to start as late as the Friday , one week prior. Mr. Tripes had signed to appear. months prior and then at the last moment wanted a better de al for himself which we felt was unfair to the other riders. Mr. J'ripe s was welcome to co m pe te under t he terms of our original ' contract. Reviewing our ad of December 6th, page 16 and 17 o f Cycle News, we name 17 riders plus 20 others. The fact is that we under stated our con tingency of riders by 13. Reviewing our event program scorecar d, 1 fin d a list of 40 riders p lus space to write in 10 local riders wh o quali fied at Escape Coun try , Decem ber 6th. How Mr. Theobald o nly counted 23 is a mystery to me. M ediaMax always m akes it a policy to offer a new starting positions to talented riders, not o nly fro m California but riders from other states. Those riders from out of state qualified in a series of races in their area. Many excellent riders ca nnot afford to fo llow the en tire AMA Pro Series where t hey re ceive National re cognition . We feel by broadening the scope of co mpet it ion we ar e help ing the sport. Our program was a 48-page book plus a 12 -page pull-out section with only 20 full pages of advertising. 1 would also be - interested to know where he p urchased a ticket fo r $8 whe n our tickets sold for $7 , SIOand $1 5 . MediaMax is a promo tion company which o pe ra tes twelve months a year promoting motocross eve nts. In closing, 1 would lik e to assure Mr. Theobald that MediaM ax respects his op in io ns and his righ t to inform others abo u t the qualit y o r lack o f quality of an y event. Mr. Theobald's comment about the P.A. System was well founded and we pl an to instal l a co nc ert sound system fo r fu tu re even ts at Anaheim to solve th is p ro bl em. , LYN NE H.'
