I high performance continues to draw top rider s and a lar ge crowd o f spectato rs. John Dan gb erg (Ho n) , in his firs t Exp ert race, took th e m oney for first overall in th e 125 clas s. Second p lace pay also wen t to a new comer , Ben Crocco (Ho n) . It was th e second tim e out as an -Exp ert for him . (A nd they though t the y we ren't ready to tu m Expert?) The upse t began in the first moto when Hal Sch afer (Ho n), an othe r. new Expert, took th e lead be fore the first tum and go t way ou t there before he scatter ed his engi ne. Ch alma Roberts (Hon ) had been running second and crashed. Crocco moved in to th e lead and con tinued to gas it, not giving se cond runner Dangberg a ch an ce to take over. (Bul) , his bike not Kevin Henry ru nning up to par, worked up to the third place. T he second ti me out Dangberg took th e lead from Jim Lesniewski (Hus) aft er a couple of lap s. Henry dro ppe d ou t an d Dangberg go t so far in fro nt that no one co uld catch him. Dan ny Montgomery (C·A) had his bike running better for th is moto and mo ved in to putting Lesniewski third. second, Cro cco had stalled on the start and was last off the line , but stilled pulled up for a fourth finish and second place money. In the 250 Expert motos, the 20-plus riders m oved in a packJap by lap the entire race, never spreading out to any great extent either in front or to the rear . Mark Hilton (SUZ) got the hole sh ot an d a clean lead going in to the firs t tum, but carne out of the same turn in tenth place after a quickie stop to turn on his gas. Steve Conner (Bul) took over the lead for that lap but gave it up to Kevin Henry (Bul) who had go ne by half a dozen riders to get there. Henry only held the lead for two laps when he crashed. No'," Mark Dickerhoof (Hus) was running in fron t followed by, would you believe, another new Expert Bill J amerson (Suz), Floyd Davis ( Suz ) and Hilton trying to make it ba ck to the front. Twenty yards before the fmish Dic kerh oo f crashed hard and the moto went to J am erso n. Kim Reeg (Bul) had co me up from last off the lin e to finish fourth righ t behind Hilton. Dav is' had second. .J amerson, psyched up from his earlier win , came off the line first in the second , m oto , but Davis caught and passed him j u st before he crashed an d fo u nd hirnslef running last. Davis kept the lead the res t of the race, b ut for a good bit of it Hil ton and Reeg were righ l' in there. Rounding the bend, Murphy pulled just enough to take the lead. D an Geary (Hon) was in close pursuit . The moto was very fast w ith the first three riders all close. Each rider rode with precision and fin ished th e m oto as they started . T he sec o nd moto Dan Geary (Hon) go t a grea t start and wen t through the first lap leading. Bru ce Manjoni (CZ) was a close second ahead of Mike Middlet on and Gary Murphy . T he seco nd lap Mike had moved to ta ke over th e lead . Gary Murphy was still hold ing fou rth. T he n ex t lap Gary got by Dan and Bruce to ta ke second. Murp hy ha d to beat Mik e to win overall. Ca tc h he did, b ut pass he d id not. Mike finished sec on d in the first mo to and winning th e secon d gave him first overall.
