It is unfortunately , impossible for u s
to
personally
acknowledge
the
numerous messages o f sympathy and
co ncern which h ave co m e from all
across the United S tates. We, therefore,
take this m ean s of letting all of you
kn ow that those messages have meant a
great de al to us and we are grateful.
The emptiness we feel is at least
part ial ly filled by the knowledge that
ou r sense of loss is share d b y so many .
Our de epest ap p re ciatio n is ex tended
to all w ho particip ated in th e m emorial
race for Jim on January 4, 1976.
Particularly to Billy Payne o f Cal ifornia
Moto Sport and the AME who put the
ra ce to ge ther; and o f co urse, to all o f
those involved as organizers, adv e rti se rs,
co n tribu tors, rid ers and spectators.
As J im's fath er, I know that Jim
would be as d eeply touched b y the
tribu te to him as we were. I know J im
would be very pleased th a t so many of
his friends wan ted to personally and
directly do something for his fiance , Sue
Ord, who meant so much to him.

The "Desert Defense Fund" makes a
lot of sense. We all need some help to

encourage e nduro or racing events
which support the d efen se of people's
righ ts in the desert.

Great! A benefit for Dese rt Defense :
Se nd in you r $9.50 to help the cause .
Bull- ·-J The benefit co n tri b u t io n so urce
appears to be so lely from those who
want to donate wh ateve r their trophy

contains the cu te little statement: "In

I agree to forego re ceiving my trophy

If th is is all there is, these guys (UEA)
and the Ride On Enduro, especially,
shoul d be boycotted. at the least! ,

Pain in the pocket
I would like an answer to a question
that hits me every ti m e I go racing. Gate
fees! Why and how co me ? Mail and post
entry , plus $3·$4 gate fee . .. . isn 't
somebody ge tting sh afted?
I pay the fee and then take a good
look at the great facilities that are
provided. Why and for what?
Perhaps you can explain th is to me as
well as others . Whe re does it stop?
What's next, p ar k in g fees?

The o n ly way we can kill his
