We, therefore, take this m ean s of letting all of you kn ow that those messages have meant a great de al to us and we are grateful. The emptiness we feel is at least part ial ly filled by the knowledge that ou r sense of loss is share d b y so many . Our de epest ap p re ciatio n is ex tended to all w ho particip ated in th e m emorial race for Jim on January 4, 1976. Particularly to Billy Payne o f Cal ifornia Moto Sport and the AME who put the ra ce to ge ther; and o f co urse, to all o f those involved as organizers, adv e rti se rs, co n tribu tors, rid ers and spectators. As J im's fath er, I know that Jim would be as d eeply touched b y the tribu te to him as we were. I know J im would be very pleased th a t so many of his friends wan ted to personally and directly do something for his fiance , Sue Ord, who meant so much to him. Mot orcycle park s and tracks are not non-profit operatio ns and the people that o wn and maintain tracks are just as interest ed in making a bu ck as the When I first reviewed m y rec en tly re ceiv ed Draft Plan o f th e El Paso and Red Mountain planning units, I was so in fu riated at th e BLM I wanted t o use th eir yellow bo ok as a gu illo tine on thei r necks. T he n I realized, that's exactly wh at th e y are go ing to do with it on the d eadline fo r public input, J anuary 15. excep t th ey 'lI use our necks. I read th rough it an d gath ered m y own thoughts and re commendations on th eir proposals, put it on paper, and sent it off to Riverside. It was easy. I was trying to figure out wh y the BLM is so anti-ORV when I fo und o ut th at th e Director o f Desert Planning, Neil Pfulb , has been a card carrying m ember of th e Sierra Club since 1956, the same yea r I was born. I lear ned a lot in 19 y ea rs about motorcycles, I guess Pfulb has learned how to Mr. exterminate them . The o n ly way we can kill his proposals is by co m in g up wi th ou r own specific recommendations. If your m in d can't cope with the BLM's logic , just send a leiter off to the Riverside Office stating th at yo u agree with the proposals and inpu t from District-37 .
