It sometimes seems as if the rider with the best knobbies on their boots wins this class because sometimes just a few inches means the difference between first and third. One of the people who seemed most surprised at even being in the running for a second or third was Henry Polley. He suffered a bad broken leg in September of 1974 and although he rode most of the climbs this year it was mid-year before he really started winning. He is third in the 350 class on a 305 Honda Super Hawk and the 1500 class on a stock 650 Triumph. Henry was also caught in the three way tie in the 250 class with Duffy Douglas and Mike Jones. The 1976 season in Texas will start February 15 at Lucky Landing in Dallas. The championship awards will be made then. The goal of the Texas Hil1climbers Association is to make climbing more exiciting for both the riders and the spectators. Rumor has it that there might be some different things tried. • Alford aces Dallas Hill By Diane Polley DALLAS. TEX.• DEC. 14 The climb at Lucky Landing was the last for.the year and the last in the 1975 Championship series. This was the second year that the 24 Texas Hillclimbers Association had sponsored a championship series and results in several classes were in doubt right to the end. Will Alford ended the season in what has become his normal winning way. He took home first in the 250. 350. 1500 classes and top time in the Exhibition class. He set a time of 5.75 seconds on his first run in the exhibition class to break his old record of 6.11. This time stood the test of time and still stood as top time when the last ride was over. The only person who came close was Tom Hairston with a time of 5.95 seconds on his 1000cc Triumph . lie is still recovering from a bad spill he took testing this bike and is not quite up to snuff. Makes you wonder what will happen when he fully recovers. O ne of the main features of this hill is a rock ledge that runs across the 75 foot area on both the street and sportsman hills. Saturday, some of the street riders . and TnA members worked over the street side and as a result more mini. powder puff and street riders went over than ever. Sunday morning some of the sportsman riders decided that what was Jim Wilson on top and moving. By Frank H. Harrison CHICKASAHA, OKLA., DEC. 21 With a gray-flannel sky and the smell of snow a good turn-out of 65 riders showed up to put on a hot riding display inside Jay Hammon's huge indoor arena. The dirt arena is a first class facility with good for the goose was good for the gander and went to work on their side of the hill with the same result. One of the people who liked this change the most was 12 year old Mike Polley. After a bad run the first time in the mini he really turned on his YZ 80 Yamaha and set a time of 9.69 seconds to barely beat Bart Spears' 9.73 seconds and ge t first place. Then he took his 185 Suzuki over in 7.40 for first in the 250 Street class. This was his second first in this class. New year it looks as if there will be a lo t - of new and different bikes at the hills in Texas. Jesse Whitt unveiled a new 500 single Yamaha that he hopes will beat the 350 single Hondas in the street classes. Several other riders are making plans to have different machines at the [11"St climb of 1976. • Results in Results Section. Polley pounds big boys at Whitney By Diane Polley WHITNEY.
