The inaugural event was held under amazingly warm and sunny skies considering that just a couple of days before the area had been innundated with the white stuff Colorado is famous for. This d id not stop those in trepid MXers who reall y want to get it on a n d break in their new bikes or boots. The riders who showed up found a sandy cou rse. Thanks for th e ex cell en t tr a ck con d itions must go in part to th e City o f Lakewood which saw ' fi t to re cycle the san d spread on the ro ads following th e sn owstorm and d eposit it o n th e n ew track . This helped m ake for mucho traction and a minimum o f mud when th e th aw sets in . According to one city o fficial a tte n ding the competition, about 60 more loads o f sand will be dumped on th e en tir e cou rse allo w ing it to mi x with th e har d cla y th is win ter to give the track a reall y great surface fo r next sp ring a nd summer ev en ts . . The day's eve n ts wer e kicked off by the Mini class and b oth mo tos were won b y Mark Cros s (Yam) . He ran a fine race and was no t d eterred one bi t by the . steep uphills. Finishing sec o n d behind Mark was Harold Page (Ya m). Bry an Adair (Suz) ran two fine back to b ack motos to win th e 125 class overall. Finishin g second to Bryan was Chris Rei ch ardt (Yam), a short track sp ecialist normally but was re ally in there for this motocross even t. The 250 class saw co nsistent finis he s with Len Mark (lion ) and Randy Fite (Hus) taking the top spots each time. This was Fitc's first . time ever in co m p e tit io n. He shows great promise. In the Open class, Calen Altman (Yam ) did the overall honors with Rod Christian (Yam) coming in second. The Lakewood Club will be try ing to get S.R.A.C. sanctioning for the future . '75 Texas Hillclimb Championship topped by Alford By Diane Polley DALLAS, TEX., DEC. 16 The Texas Hillcl imb Championship season ended at the Lucky Landing Hill in Dallas. Several classes were in doubt right to the last climb and in the 250 class third place still ended in a three-way tie. Will Alford was the biggest winner of the year. Alford was number one in the Exhibition class and the 1500 class. lie also captured enough top time wins on this bike t o make h im King of the Hill. Will had the top time of the d ay at half of th e po int cl imbs held in T exas an d holds th e record ti me o n the Dall as hill w ith 5: 75 seconds . Alford ';lso do m inated the 350 cl ass and the 25 0 champions hi p. It is a go o d thing that Alford ca n not ride in anymore classes. Cary Chandler wa s t he other big winn er wi th two class champ io nsh ips. C ary rode h is 12 5 Kawasaki , built and" t uned by Ro nnie Long's Shop , to a rust in the 125 class and in the 500 clas s he used both a Bultaco an d a Husky t o co me o u t on top. C ary had enough po ints in th e Exhibition class to end th e yea r in second. T he 200 class was the closest with the re sults in doubt right down to the wire. Th e top four co mp et it o rs in this class all ride super running Bultacos, Norris Meeks is number one followed by Sunny Holmes, Tommy Elkins, and B. D. Westerfield right on their heels. At one point at the close of the ' season there was just a .two point spread between the last three men. The 100 class was close all year.
