Worth. obscurely listed as national MX No . 45, is no 0J"- _ stranger to Texas motocross fans. having been top 125 Pro Texan of the 1974 Tex-AMA Series (second only to Gary Jones). and racing with speed and style not to be forgotten until breaking a femur at a local event in October '74. Today 's race at Mosier Valley MX Park saw Dazzlin ' Danny take the ho lehot of the first 125 Expert moto, turn back the challenge of Doug Cook (Yam) and Eddie Walker (Yam ). and take the chec kers over a 20-rider field. The final moto gave Doss a poor start. and he threaded his new Honda cautiously through the pack for seventh. en ding third overall. Meanwhile. Eddie Roberts (Yam ) improved his fourth in round one to win the second moto and overall with 4-1 marks. with Cook (5·2) second. Continuing his blitz of big-bore Expert classe s. Bobby Pickard pushed his pair of Pen tons to a sweep of 250 and Open Expert motos, overcoming Ricky Kidd (Hus) andJody Foust (Mail in the Open. and getting by Mitch Milson (Bul) to take 250 honors. Bobby is definitely the one to beat in north Texas. 24 Dazzlin' Danny rolls the throttle off and eyes the grounds• Jimmy Frye (51 holds a temporary lead in the 250 Intermediates at Mosier Valley. Also showing up as riders to beat due to repeat wins today were 125 Intermediate Mike Athens (Hon}, 100 class winner Ron Kunz (Suz). and 125 Novice Robbie Pannell (Bul). Newcomer Brian Wilson (Yam) upset the favorites in the 250 Novice action over a field of 38, and in Division II of the 125 Novice, Robert Hard (Hon ) made good his first move ou t of the 100 class. • Results in Results Section. the 250 class , Bobby Guidry (2.3) kept his 360 on the gas to secure second place cash despite Bill Green's (4,2) hard charging efforts to change things. Don Ludeman (3,6) had a strong first moto performance lagged down in the second moto to finish fourth. • Duffy doubles Bravo By Mark Knowles HOUSTON . TEX.• DEC . 14 A small but eager crowd filed through Rio Bravo's gates with Glen Johnson, Keith Duffy and Bill Green emerging top money winners for the day. Mike Ballensky (2 ,1) topped the 125 Intermediate class after a hard second moto battle with Steward Wilson and Kevin Allen . Wilson (3 ,2) took home the second place trophy after Allen (5.3) faded into the third position ahead of fourth place Blake Haynes (4.4). The two Glens. Johnson and Urquhart. clashed forces today in efforts to win the 125 Expert class. Tex-AMA champ Glen Johnson grabbed the lead of the first moto as Glen Urquhart tried unsuccessfully to shadow him leaving the rest of the pack far behind. Johnson won the first moto easily as Urquhart crashed spectacularly but still had time to get up and finish in second place ahead of Robert Coreale, Johnson took the lead again the the second moto with Urquhart matching his rapid pace as the pair soon left the p ack behind. Urquhart passed J ohnson on the third lap and star ted pulling away until dropping hard on a backside jump. Johnson cruised by into the lead as Urquhard managed to get back into the race in second place. Johnson (1.1) took first overall as Urquhart limped in for second ahead of Robert Coreale (3 .3) and new Expert Don Parker (4. 5) in fourth . Keith Duffy (1.1) wasn 't bothered by bad starts. crowded track conditions or rou gh com petition as he won the 250 Expert class. The main cen ter of attention was the battle for second place between Bill Green (2,2) and smooth Steve Schramm (3,3) . Green collec ted second place cash ahea d of Steve Schramm with David Taylor (4, 5) placin g a co nsisten t fourth. The Open Expert class saw many of the same faces return to the starting line with Keith Duffy ( I, I ) again proving u nbea ta ble. After suffering problems in Okie indoor on tacky surface By Frank H. Harrison OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA.• DEC. 20 It was a very chilly winter evening in Oklahoma City, but indoors at the Oklahoma Fairgrounds Arena, the temperature was hot with competition. The show had some of the best riders from Texas. Oklahoma and Kansas slipping and sliding on the polished concrete where only one week before millions of television viewers watched a live two hour special of the National Finals Rodeo. With all the dirt removed, and not a "cow chip" in sight, Al Johnson and his Yukon Raceway 's crew had done an excellent job of preparing a spotless racing surface, and for added traction mopped a popular soft drink the full length o f the arena. The soft drink application not only makes the black mar ks come u p better after the race, it also caused a beautiful blac k groove for racing. In the 250 Amateurs Dennis Roden was the quickest of the 10 starters and also quickest to go down on the first lap leaving John Sexton (Yam). J unior Smith [Suz] , Dennis Barry (Bu l) and Ed Slaughter in the lead. However. Randy Dopps (Oss) was moving through the field rapidly. first picking off Slaughter. and then Barry for a third place finish while Sexton and Smith held the pole.
