J eff Szuebe r put it all to gether on his Cycle Stop Mono to outlast the rest of the 250 Pros. Richee Collins raked in a final moto win to nab the 500 Pro overall on his Collins and Sons' KTM machine. Dennis ·Cur tis buzzed his way ar ou nd in very, very smooth fashion to top the small 125 Pro class. Westminster Cycle's Jeff Borden put his power-house Maico to work as he swep t the first 500 Pro moto fro m start to finish . Collins slipped in fo r second a fter work ing past CRT's David Gerig (Hus) early in the mo to . Gertig led the opening laps of the seco nd moto, but lost his lead when his Husky died going down the score tower straight. That left Collins alone to grasp top spot. Borden couldn't quite catch the swift KTM kid, as Colli ns br oke loose to take the overall by a wide margin. Lynn Vick moved in to third when Gerig lost spokes out of his Husky's front wheel, but third overall went to Kastner with a 4-4 score behind Collins and Borden. Aboard a fresh new RM 250, Dale Anderson leapt into the lead in the lead- off m ot o of the 250 Pro bash. Anderson's lead was cut down to one-and-a-half laps as MCE's Scott Montgomery sailed past the Oceanside Suzuki rider. In the meantime. Jeff Szueber was berserking it fro m a sixth place start to finally rest in third. Anderson began to fade . allowing Szueber a shot at a rapidly disappearing It ap peared that Mon tgomery. Montgomery couldn't be stopped, he kept pulling awa y from the pack ex cept for his engin e. WFO on the seven th lap heading up th e h ill was when his engine called it qu its and "snapped." Szu eber br eezed his way in to th e lead, wh ile T amal i Smith also br oke while holding down seco nd. Second at the end of the moto was Kaster , a faint 4 5 seconds behind Szueber, Anderson repea ted his firs t m ot o 'per fo nnan ce with an o th er holeshot , thi s time leadi ng for nearly half th e moto. Szu eber stead ily worked up on Anderson, fin ally gett ing by him in the bac ksec tion, Steve Mon tague (Mai) hel d down third for Co llins and Sons, just • ahe ad of Chu ck Rouse (Hus), • Richee Coll ins doesn't care how the heck they do it at Ascot. He took first 500 Pro at AMC Carlsbad.
