right now? If you put it off, you know you won 't do it .. . You don't even have to type it, just a nice handwritten letter will do. Send your comments to: BLM, 1695 Spruce Street, Riverside, California 92507. Legal Defense Fund December 13 and 14 will determine the District 37 Enduro Number One plate as the California Enduro Association hosts the two- day Last Chance Enduro. With double ' points at stake a number of riders could take the coveted plate. Husky rider Tom The Legal Defense Fund Task Force has expanded to - include D-38, S.C .O.R.E., DRA, and other on the ball organizations. We m ust unite to keep the land open and finally it 's happening. Incidentally, the United Enduro Association is pro moting a Legal Defense Fund Benefit Enduro on February 8, 1976 at Lucerne Valley. The family-style enduro will feature prizes (many, many) and an enduro school by the factory Honda Enduro Team on Saturday along with a trials demonstration by some of Southern California's finest trials riders. Sounds like a good cause (I admit it, I'm in the UEA, and it's a plug) for all of you to help out with. Court cases cost money but they are really the only way where we have a chance to win. UEA promises a good easy family enduro and a lot of fun. You can cal l (7 14 ) 871-9677 for sign up info. Got some good ones so read on . . . Malcolm Smith tool bag This bag is right fine. I needed a bag that would hold all 0 f my assorted tools, extra shift levers, master links, wire, etc. - and be easy to get into while the seconds arc ticking away during an enduro, or qualifier. Malcolm's bag mounts on the rear fender behind the scat and blends right in . It comes with three leather straps, but the straps allow too much slop and allows the bag to flop around. Some plastic tics instead of the leather straps fixed things along with a bolt/washer combination through the bag into the Spurlock is holding on to number one going in on the strength of his back-to-back wins in the Cal State 100 and Tuff E 'Nuff enduros. Moto-journalist Dave Ekins is not far back in second with young Rick Munyon on a MR -175 Honda breathing down his neck. It's a tight race but with double points anything can happen. They don't call it the Last Chance for nothing. 1976 Rules There arc a n u m ber of important rule changes for District 3 7 nex t year. One of the most important is the establishment of the 0-200cc/201 -0pen classes. This is more fair to the smaller bikes who usually run at a very large disadvantage in competing with the bigger bikes for points. If enough interest is generated, perhaps for 1977 three classes can be established. Another major change is the establishment of a Women's Division in endures. The "C" class this year certainly paid off with increased entries and if properly promoted, the Women's Division will also help. For you women who arc interested, you can obtain your enduro card thro ugh the Women's Division steward, who fo r 1976 will be Sue Hall. The new rule books will be prin ted by the time you read this and her address will be in it. One change which the Competition Committee snuck through at their November meeting was to cut the number of point paying endures to 50% of the total number of enduros instead of just dropping two per 1975 rules. The reasoning behind the decision was to try and make it fair for the riders whose clubs promoted endures, especially for those who promote two-day endures. 1 agree something had to be done but dropping three ins tead of one half of the total might have been better. Dropping half is fine when you have 40 races a year like the desert racers, but when you only have nine or ten, half seems pretty drastic. But it's done and we'll have to live with it for a year and sec how it works ou t. Maybe in 1976 more enduro riders will get involved with enduro rule recommendations and not depend on the Competition Committee to do it for them. Incidentally, Maury Tiehen of the Checkpoints M.C. is the 1976 D-37 ~nduro steward. Maury has some good Ideas for the sport and 1 feel he will do a good job. He takes over from Nate Sciaqua of t he Dirt Diggers who will probably go back to motocross on his DT-I. EI Paso/Red Mtn.
