Kaw had enough and the engine seized. Bill Tarling (Hus) relaxed when he saw Steve sitting beside the track. Bill, followed closely by Ric Ellis (Yam), crossed the finish to take first and second. Bill is now the owner of a Penton. Phillip Oveland (CZ) was the winner of the Open class . He too was awarded a new Penton. The 12 5 Experts were nex t on the line. Spectators lined both sides of the double downhill jumps. Some armed with cameras to get shots of Mike Hershman (Hon) , Mike Preston (Nog), Ron Self (KTM) , Chris Grewer (Hon) an d Danny (Magoo) Chandler (Yam). Little jeff Watts [Hus] was first out of the tum and held the lead througho ut the entire moto, Eric McKenna, followed b}' Glenn jennings (Hon) and Hershman (Hon) were right there. Each rider rode with precision, concentrating on the course. Riders were so close that one mistake and anyone of the first four could have taken over the lead. In the second moto, j eff h ad a good start. A flat front tire co uld not give the traction he needed when cornering. He dropped back and finished eighth giving him a fourth overall. Eric had things going his way after he finally got by Glenn Jennings, who had led for six laps. The second moto , first and second places gave the overal l final to Eric McKenna, Glenn jenning. was second. Bruce Harlon (Bul) had two easy wins in the 250 Expert class . Ron Huffman ' (C-A) and Ron Self (Suz) battled it out for second and third. Self had to settle for a third overall. Ron Self was probably a little tired by the end of the day . He cam e right back and took both Open Experts, with little work. • Results in Results Section. CMC Sand Hill MX By Marvin Patton . BRENTWOOD, CAL ., NOV . 2 Pretty Diane Lorado, a score.keeper at Sand Hill Ranch, watched patiently as the 250 Novices waited on the line. Alan Lorado (Yam) was among the 21 riders in the first division. The first m o to went just as Alan wanted. He walked away with it . Alan got off the line in the second just as easily. Phil Douglas (Hon) was ba ck in the pack picking riders off one at a time, un til he could see Alan just ahead. With just two laps .remaining, Phil was ch asing Alan by two bike lengths. At the white flag, Phil could feel the ex ha ust from Alan's Mono. As they rounded the last comer, both riders and bikes gave all they had to the finish. Alan crossed the finish just half of a bike's length in fron t of Phil. The 250 Intermediates decided to arouse the great crowd of spectators. Wayne Archer (Yam) took the lead right at th e start of the first mo to , with Tony Shipman (Hus) righ t behind, Wayne, with his smooth style and great riding ability , appeared to be holding his own as Tony started to apply pressure.
