dominates Elsinore
By And i Gangewe r
ELSINORE, CAL. , OCT. 25
Jeff Allison, 14, from Poway,
showed up at Elsinore to really
blow th e locals off. On a 400
Yamaha, he took everyone by
st orm.
Chris Blair and Steve J ones were the
number one and two transfers to the
main even t from heat one of the Open
Novice class. Allison and Dwayne'Locke
were the final two transfers fro m the
second heat. Four riders would transfer
from the semi, and it was a battle
against who would be the fourth one.
Mike Montgomery had first wrapped 'u p ,
followed by Vance Fisher, ano t her easy
transfer. .
As the green flag new, and the Open
Novices took off for the main event, it
was Allison blazing the t rail for the
others to follow. Allison, with a good
lea d, could take it easy, b ut Locke and
J ones each had to work a little for their
positions. There wasn't any change in
position, however, and the three
Yamahas of Jeff, Dwayne and Steve
finished in th at order.
Allison did a repeat in the Special
Novice class. Winning the first heat, he
transferred to the main along with Dana
Peters, the winner of the second heat.
Jeff had it eas y in his heat, but Dana
won his by th e skin of his teeth. Tim
Thibodeaux had led th e first three laps,
but as they came around for the
checkered, Peters was in first .
With 162 riders and 63 races, the
Special Novice main was a long awaited
affair. Allison was number one from
start to fin ish. As Jeff kept pulling
aw ay ,
Zehner
and
Wine,
both
Yamaha-mounted, gave each other
lessons o n how to play follow the
leader. Wine held second the first two
laps, but Zehner won the contest and
stayed a distant second .to Allison the
rest of the race.
After all the races were over, a
wheelie co ntest was run . John Allison,
the second-ranked Expert at Ascot, rode
the 400 Yamaha that Jeff did so we ll on
and put o n a show for all. J oh n ca me to
pick up the high point trophy do nated
by Sandak Racing Association fo r
placing second in Ascot's points and
decided to have some fun. John stood
o n the scat and kept the front wheel up
ar o und the fir st turn an d picked up a
