The firs t heat was an easy victory for Ed Wine , wh o transferred directly to the main , while the o ther five riders went to semi o ne. Heat two belonged to Mitch Zehne r, who led every lap. Zehner also reserved himse lf a spot in the main as fo ur of the second-heat riders filled up the first semi and the others we nt to the second semi. The final heat race went to Yamaha-mounted Chris Choisser. In the semis, Lloyd Pat z ke battled for the win in the first semi. Pa t Scott (Yam) was t he leader fo r two laps, but Lloyd swept p ast for the win. Bult aco -mounted Bill Fulton wa s in the third an d fin al tr ansfer spot to the m ain . The other semi was all Ken MacBe t h's after he got aroun d Chris Lit tle on th e first lap. Wayne Locke (Ya m) too k the seco nd as he pa ssed Lit tl e on t he white flag lap. After th e imp ressive semi win, MacBeth came ba c k and tried th e same th ing - leading - an d it wo rked j us t as we ll in t he main. MacB eth led all th e way an d no change was made in the first three positions th ro ugh out t he race. Followi ng Mac Beth's Yammie with one of hi s own was Ed Wine . The third and final tro ph y spot went to Bryan Thibodeax (Yam) . • Hollingsworth hauls at Hi-Boot TT By Ken Dunn DEHESA, CAL., OCT . 5 Scott Ho llingsworth brought his 125 Mono out to try out a new pipe. He must have like d it, because he blew everyone into th e 42 wee ds . Hollingsworth grabbed an early lead in t he first 125 Expert r ou n d , followed by Floyd Pe t to n (Yam) an d AI Glov er (Ya m) . Pe tt o n took t he lead fr o m Hollingswort h on th e first lap , but Sc ott stung hi m back a few seconds later. After that it was a runaway fo r Hollingsw orth. Petton 'Vas sec on d at the flag, with Glover pressurin g in third . Don Hartley brough t his Noguc hi acros s the lin e for fo urth after a dead -last start. Hartley got the ju mp in the sec o nd heat , closely pur sued by Hollingswort h, wi th Glove r falli ng into the third position. Hartley held t he lead un til a few yards from the finish line, where his Noguchi seized. Hollingsworth to ok advantage of Hartley's consistent bad lu ck , claiming an other win. Hartley grabbed the c1utch in ti me to coast across the line for second, Glover clinched another th ird . Scotty Burnworth made up for lost time in the last heat when he blitzed the start. Bumworth kept his YZ out in front until the third lap when Hollingsworth took over. Hollingsworth won, followed by Burnworth, and Petton. Hollingworth's triple gave him an obvious overall, Petton claimed the second spot and Glover finished the day with a third. Open Expert Tim Melancon (Ya m) didn't look back and ran off with the first heat. Most of the action was back where Steve Little (BSA) and Don Hartley (Ya m) were going at it fo r second/th ird . After a few laps, Har tley pulled clear and Little set tled for third when his BSA started acting up. When the second heat began, it was Hartl ey in the lead wit h Melancon right be hind. Melancon was soo n o n Hartley's ta il and th e two pulled away dicing for the lead. Hartl ey sq ueezed ahead for t he flag, Melancon righ t -behin d, Little sco red another third. Steve Little stole the lead in the last round, but faded q uickly with his Beezer running worse than ever. Melancon took over never to be headed. In the 12 5 Junior b attle , Gene Schran k got t he holeshot on his monoshocker and almost instantly scooted to a 50 yard lead . St eve Ackerson (Hon) and Steve Ellington (Hon) were le ft behind, slam ming doo rs on eac h ot her fo r second. Halfwa y through th e race, Ellington slipped by Ackerson. He proceeded to charge after Schrank, b ut was cut short by t he ch ec ke red flag. In the second moto, Ellington got away first bu t Schrank m ade u p ti me in the rough, slipping past a fter four laps. He quickly lo st it again on the next long straight, and remained in second. was trying to ou t-do the next guy go ing up the d ro p-off. But no one could m atch Zahrt's horrend ous cro ss-ups, wh ich ca me to be kn ow n as " the mini twist.
