I Pretty Bobbi Hunter won both th e semi and the main in the first division of 250 Novice TT. Leading from start to finish, she defeated a lar ge field of mal e competi tors. There was never any doub t that it was Bobbi's race with Frank Scillippi and Bria n T h eun iss e n a dista nt second and th ird. Bob bi 's fa ther deserves a lot o f th e credi t as he works just as hard in th e pits as chief tune r and head roote r as Bo bbi do es o n the tr ack. Sc ott Thurlow head ed th e second Novic e div isio n but he had to work a lot harder for it with Glen Rees and Frank Tumbiol a breathing down hi s ne ck . Clif f Whetstone transferred to Am at eur as he won th e 25 0cc Novice Division I Half Mile. Cliff h as really found his nich e since he st arted riding the larger b ike . . On the Hal f Mile, Bob Graves was leading, but was missing a foo tpeg an d o n the second 10 last lap it fin all y go t to him and he went down. AI to ok over first with Ted Dann, rid ing for his first time as an Am ateur, in for second, an d Denny Aguirre third. Grover held off a strong charge from Rex Hailey to win the TT. Jim Wrigh t o f Corona was on hand with the Harley-Davidson he cla ime cl at Asco t. J im gave himself a bi g handicap in the Open Expert Half Mile and still blew everybody's doors off. Rob Selvy fell and still m an age d to win the 100cc Novice class ove r Bill Viust and Cliff Whetstone. Mike Tidwell stiIl kee ps rolling along and pu t in anothe r out standing night rid ing five and winning five. Ti d well pic ked up both Hal f Mile and TT wins in the 125 and 250 Expe rt classes as • well as a 250 Twin win o n the oval. Hannah cleans house in AME Expert class By Denise Beardshear SIMI V ALLEY , CAL., OCT. 5 It was Hannah's lucky day at Valley Cycle Park. He p owered his fact ory Suzuki to victory in both mot os of th e 250 and 500 classes but it wasn't just a piece of cake. Edd ie Cole (BuI) grabbed the lead in th e firs t 25 0 go with Han sen (Mai), Zahrt (l\lai) , and Hannah right on his ta il. Hannah pi cked o ff Zahrt goi ng into th e th ird lap , and started d o sing in on Hansen. Befo re he co uld make his m ove , Zahrt cut him o ff on the inside . Hannah tried every line on the tr ack to pass Zahrt back. Halfway th ro ugh the heat the door opened when Zahrt dropped off 'the pace with bike problems and Co le followed suit with a DNF . Hannah Was left with a clear field and powered the Suzuki on to overtake Hansen for th e mota win. In the same class , one very upset Joe Suebert , riding a borrowed Yamaha, crashed right after the start due to sticky brakes. This put h im over a half lap behind the pack. Surprisingly, he caught up and passed the last place Experts, then tailed Ho ffman .. . un til he crashed agai n ! Had luck been on his side, he would ce rtain ly have been up front . Second mota Zahrt and Hannah were at it again, bumping and b an ging in to each other during an incredibly fast rid e . Han nah got by, but Zah rt di dn't ' give up. He forced Hannah off the tr ack, bei ng a master of b loc k passing in turns, but spun auf himself two turn s later. Ken finished second, with Dave Zahrt (Bul) third overall. A t the sta rt of the 25 0 In termediate class , the leader found himself super o ut-of-co n tr ol, tank 'slap ping his way through the first tum . Luckily, eve ryone managed to miss him. Two lap s and two turns later, two more guys crashe d into each other an d before it was over, the track looked more like a stage for a co med y ac t. T ry ing despe ra tely to untan gle their bi kes, an o ther gu y pil ed into them , kn o cking the m both down agai n. Dicing around DeAnza's 'dozer By Allen Kunst ' SUNNYMEAD, CAL., OCT. 4 A stalled bulldozer caused De Anza's track to be re-ro uted over some new terrain this Saturday, including one truly first-gear offcamber hairpin. Brain Rowe , 250 Expert (Bul), continued to dominate the action by pulling off a holeshot every moto and moving away from the pack at a startling rate. The only one who managed to keep Ro we in sight was 500 Junior, Marc Crosby (Mai) , until he lost his carb after a few laps and was forced to retire. In the 250 Intermediates, Gary Cain (Kaw ) pulled out into th e lead over brother Ro n (Kaw) and Steve Lutz (Mai ), who couldn 't gain any ground on the pair due to a slipping clutch . The next m o ta , however, he got the clutch to hold and slipped past Gary to take the win when Gary blew a shift. In the final moto, Gary had about a 50-yard lead when Lu tz did a spectacular endo o n the downhill, ending his bi d fo r the overall and blackllagging the race a lap early. Bobby J ones (Yam) put out a co nsisten tl y fas t p ace to co p ail three 125 Beginner motos, though Dan Ward (Hon) was never very far behind, cap tu ring the second. • Results ran last we ek. .. ... 35
