Dan Geery (Hon) was jumpy on the line for the start of the first 250 Pro race. In fact Dan was so jumpy they had to restart the race twice and it seemed as if Geerv was causing all the commotion. When things got sorted out guess who pulled the start ? Following Dan was Class C rider Bruce Hanlon (Bul), doing a fine job considering his style was rather on the wide open side. !\lark Peters [Suz] was also in the hunt ridi ng in about third. Geery looked fast and it seemed like this would be his race . No way, as Han lon was riding Geery all the way, waiting for the mistake. When it came, he was there to cash in on it. Oeery fought back and took second with Mark Peters not far. behind. repeated his holesho t . Geery performance in the second m o to , Runn ing in tight quarters were Peters in second and Rudy Leo n (Pen) in third. Once again ' it 100 ked like Dan would have an easy win but about the halfway poin t Geery bro ke his brake lever and had to hang o nto it so as not to get it caugh t in his front wheel. This was Geery's continuing saga of little breakdowns that have been plaguing him since he got his new Honda. Mark Peters took over first place and held it. Portland scratcher finale By Paul Middelhoven, OMRRA PORTLAND, ORE., SEPT. 28 The last road race of the season in Oregon was held under overcast skies at Portland International. A total of a h undred bikes were entered, and 15 new riders were introduced to the sport. A hundred dollar prize was at stake in the Open Cafe class. The race was won by Bill White of Renton, Washington with a super ride aboard a production 903 Kawasaki. A race- long duel in the 250 GP class was finally won by Bruce Lind of Seattle, Washi ngton, while Gary Bade, Olympia, Washington, came in second, only a few feet behind. The 125 GP class was a runaway for Mark Haskins from Seattle, after Larry Truckositz seized. A good race was pu t on by 14-year-oldJohn Wincewicz, who came in second in the second heat, af te r he holed a piston in the firs t heat. Th is was his firs t road race . Gene Brown had a win in the 500 Production class and a fourth in Open Cafe on a borrowed bike. After his 350 Yamaha production bike was stolen in Portland a week before the race.
