rl-< Q) ..0 When the second mota got underway Jodry got the holeshot and stretched a big lead for a clean win and first overall. 'Har t , back in the race on a borrowed Bultaco (due to a recent CMC ruling that permits Experts to switch bikes between motos without penalty), and Hebard were following J odty 's dust un til Hart crashed. Hebard and Sandretto got by him. The 125 Expert race was a tight fight , fo r the lead in both motos. Contestants were: Lon Wardell (Han) a new Expert, Phil Crane (Suz), Cloyse Holland, Jr. Suz ), Bill Swartz (Yam), Mike Marquez Hus), Kevin Henry (Bul) and Don Cantaloupi (CA). Wardell laid it down in the first mota, and broke down in the second. Marquez crashed off a jump in the first and after a near last place start in the second only worked up to fifth. Holland's two plus one gave him top cash, Crane's one plus three was good for second. The Open Expert class was a cinch for Kevin Henry who took over the lead in the second lap of each mota, building a giant lead to win the first one, and being heavily challenged by Jim Franklin (Hus) in the second. Franklin got by Henry in the last lap, but Henry applied the go -power to regain his lead a n d win the mota and top cash. Franklin's twin seconds gave him second best pay. BAKERSFIELD, CAL., SEPT. 13 Close to 200 riders showed up at Sprockets Park Saturday night for a Ron Pierce Enterprises IT. One reason for such a good turnout was that all other District 35 events up North were rained out. lt was Britt Butterfield (Yam) taking the 125 Novice heat race but he had his hands full with Dewayne Miller (Yam) who was within striking distance the entire race. Miller had reve nge on his mind when they lined up for the ' Main , but Butterfield led the pack into turn one and was never headed after that. In the 125 Expert run Richard Torres (Yam) took both the heat and the ,Main. Derek Land (Yam) had the main , event lead while Torres fought with the pack. Torres took over the second slot and won on lap two when he slipped to the inside .of Land in the . sweeper. Land tried a couple of times to . regain his lead but failed. After two restarts due to, mishaps in. the first turn Randy Moore (Yam) took the 200 Junior heat over hard-ehargin " Scott Randall (Suz). Randall was mavin ' in the Main too as he took first place honors while Jim Conners finished second and heat winner Moore had to settle for third. Yamaha ~ilot Gary Luther' got by Phil Taylor (Han) in the sweeper on the final lap to take the 250 Juniors. • Results in Results Section. Mamola mauls 'em, again By W. H. Spencer SAN JOSE, CAL., SEPT. 7 Randy Mamola swept two more class victories in the third of four Semi-pro half miles at the Santa Clara ,Co unty fairgrounds in San 38 Jose. The mighty pint-sized speedster had little trouble in clean sweeping both the 250cc and 360cc Expert classes" No shortage of track-packers - the Sprockaroids (?) tum out by the truckload. taking home a little over 5100 for his troubles. Mamola grabbed the lead in the first 10 feet of the 14 man, to lap Main and was never headed. Rick Delacy held on to second for the first two laps in hopes of making it a real team effort for Boss frames and Yamaha World but Chuck Miller (Yam) had better plans. Miller swapped the second place with Delacy for two laps bu t moved ahead four laps from the end. Delacy had a hard time holding off both Don Bailey and Fremont Raceway king Steve Carrillo. At the checkered, it was Delacy by an inch in a disputed decision. In the 250 Expert final Mamola was again way out in front with Pat Hennen road racing through traffic to take second over Mike Delacy, younger brother to Rick. Dave Faria used brother Mike 's 250 ride to take fourth over Chris Paulson and Joey Dalla. Mike Faria suffered a broken hand in a ' practice session crash. District 35 's Gary Dark nipped out Rod Spencer for the 125 Expert win but elected to accept a trophy rather than cash as his high school needs him for sporting even ts, There were seven trophies up for grabs in the 250 Junior and it was a flashing success for Dennis Stolp with the first five spots changing at each corner. lim Skov and Gary Spinazze chased each other for second place at the green but Spinazze could only hang onto third behind Mitch Magana at the checkered while Skov took sixth with First Mamola (801 and th en the mob, as the short-stack speedster takes o ne of his two Expert w ins at San Jose's Semi Pro go.
