He th en just kep t on mavin ', leavin g Ken Anderson, Butch Cochran and Rick Waters to worry abo u t the next three slots. Anderson couldn 't be shaken out of number two but Waters slipped by Co chran on the gun .lap to finish third. Junior point leader Steve Eklund skimmed off the wins all day in t hat divis ion. It was some Main event; t he first lap was an almost even m atch between Eklund, Lowell Moural, Frank Word and Tom Copriva, Ek lund began to pull away leavin g Word t o pass Moural on the second lap . Expert Diane Cox showed her ponytail to Pete Marinacci in a most fashionable TO manner. While winner Jack Heeter was clocking three at 1. 13 , Diane was settling into the groove behind Marinac ci. She 'd close on the straigh ts, lose in the turns un til the final lap when sh e crowded into tum three, held it open and swung out/ide in tum four, then punched it and slipped into second by about three-quarters of a bike length. Th ereaft er , the crowd cheered at the mere men ti on of her name and egged her continually in the Main where she fmished sixth. No small matter when you eonsider the fron t five! There were 13 Experts in the Main and they were given two p rac tice laps. The roar of those 13 engines vibrated the whole stadium and the crowd surged to i t s feet . It was that snappy cr o wd-pleaser Ch arlie Bro wn out in fro nt, crossi n' up comers with feet o n th e pegs. Chuck J oyner was not far behind with Mar k Williams closing fast and that was so me go-ro und , Williams p ushed fo r five hard lap s then fo un d Randy Scott grinnin ' as he sailed in to th ird. J ody Patterson (Yam) go t a good h ol eshot and quickly moved out ah ea d o f the rest o f the p ack. Dave Evers (Yam) also broke loose and began closing the gap be t ween him and Patterson. As the Ever s/Pa tters on duel got tighter, Dan a moved into third p lace and waited for he r opening . In the four th lap Evers tried ' to sq ueeze under Pa tterson but ~en t in a little to o st rong causing both n ders to move off their line . Dana quickly. took advan tage of the situation, moved In to the groove an d came out of the turn ahead. In the 125cc hig h point race , the John Sudberry (Yam )/Dave Upton (Han) d uel is getting real tight. Now, with only two races left, t hey are within one point of a tie situation. It looks like this one will go right down to the wire.
