Less than half of the 660 riders
entered managed to finish the
Sham rock's 90 ·m ile roller coaster
course.
So m e of the riders were a bit
confused as they saw Shamrocks on the
start line, but a Desert M.C. banner for
th e start of the Expert /Amateur race.
The Desert M.C. had all of their riders
make up Shamrock jerseys for the race.
Forty riders put on th e jerseys and
managed to confuse of lot of people,
but not Mitch Mayes, who put quite a
few hill s between him and Cordis Brooks
for an easy win .
Larry Roesseler was running third,
with Bob Balentine, A.C. Bakken and
Andy Kirker close behind. Ed Zarp took
first Amateur with Invader's 17 5cc rider
Kelly taking second. Paul Ashford
brough t home third place honors for the
Vikings. Goat Brecker was righ t up
there with the AmateurIExper ts taking
first Novice. It was quite a while before .
Larry Frolick showed up for second and
M. Price followed for third overall, first
heavyweight.
I spoke with Dennis Crawford fro m
the San Gabriel Valley M.C. about the
Barstow-to-Vegas legal fund . They are
accepting $25 donations for next year's
B to V race. In appreciation, y ou will
r e c e i v e a participation pin reading
"Barstow·to·Vegas, BLM Cancelled".
Pleas e send y o ur ch eck to SGVM C,
1106 Moonlight Summit Dr., Diamond

Actually, this isn't just any old desert racer; he's a member of the Checker's fore ign legion, returning from undercover espionage in the desert. Wonder what's in the canteen?
