In the th ird m oto Sermer again took off, he aded for th e lead, and by the time the ra ce was over, Sermer h ad wo rked his Suzuki into a very co m fo r table lead and an easy win. \l ool e came out second overall with Olive settling for the third. Mit ch Zeh ner (Yam) was the 2 50 Novi ce Main ev ent winner with a go o d race fo r second go ing on behind his back. Mit ch Zehner mov es a little closer to an Am ateur ra ting with his gre at ride and win. • Results in Results Section . rI-< CU ..0 o .... u o Tidwell takes five By Elaine Jones COR ONA, CAL., S EPT . 17 Ted Dana ea rned his graduation papers, ta king both the 25 0 Novice TT and hal f mile, but the TT was not an easy win. It was Glen Reis who had it all tied up, but bike probl ems were Glen 's undoing and not enough horses kept Cliff Whetstone back in second, Scott Thurlow moved into third. The h al f m ile was an instant replay with all three finishing in the same order. Mike TIdwell (Yam) had a perfect sco re for the evening riding five and winning five . The 125 TT and half mile Amateur /Expert classes were no co n tes t with Mike far enough ahead to stop and have coffee. Carl Whitt, looking much improved, nailed down second early in the TT Main. Tracy Bowers worked his way through the pack to wind up third. On th e half mile flying Danny Perkins took seco nd with Troy Fisher, mounted on a 100cc Greenie, holding off a strong . at tac k by Freddie Conover for third. TIdwell set his sights on the 2 50 Expert TT and half mile goes and again, \ well tuned m achines and ability, told the story . AI Grover settled into second and Mike Minnig could do no better than third. It was a different story on the half mile with Minnig taking second and J oh n Sp erry (Su z) in for third. Eddie San Ro m an , who has been hav ing his share of bad luck in re cent weeks, won over a good size field in the 250 Amateur hal f mile. Roger Dufur, st ill getting his feet wet as an Amateur, was in for second and John De Bruyn rounded out the field with t hird . Cliff Mathews won both the 125 Novi ce TT and half mile. Th e TT sh o w was a duel between Tracy Bower and Mike Paul son for sec o n d with Tracy get ti ng th e nod. On the half mile the tabl es wer e reversed and it was Paul son taking second . The Op en Am ateur h alf mile had Steve Miller ta king swe e t revenge on Bob Graves who beat him out last week. Denny Aguirre was in there for a couple of laps but th e 750 Yamaha he was tryin g o u t decided to end the even ing with a DNF. Mik e Minnig received his win for th e even ing in th e Open Expert half mil e , leading start-to-finish. John Calicchio and Rick Bird took the chan ge partners route, with John getting the nod. Jeff Cesmat took a 10 lap Main, proving no one co uld catc h him. Denny Aguirre was second, everybody else broke. Ray Lovell , who usually runs better on the half-mi le, won th e Ope n Novice IT, leadin g from s tart to fin ish. Patrick Dobbins and Mark Petty were secon d and thi rd. On the Open No vice half mile , Ron Sheets collected th e gold wi th Dylan Neihart seco nd and Roger Dufur third. , David DeTemple won the l\lini IT leaving Gailerd Whit comb and Dale Akers to go at it , changing positions every lap.
