Spectators noticed (and didn 't fail to comment) how Bramlett 's bike was taking the bumps like a kangaroo with a hot rock in its pouch . After finally taking over first place th e kangaroo threw him to the gro und, right in front of DeCouq ue, pulling DeCouque to the ground also . junior rider Do nnie Miguel (Han) m an age d to slide by the pileup and take a first in the moto , with De Co uq ue finishing seco n d. When Bramlett p ulle d h ims el f into th e pits, he finally discovered why his Yammie was bucking so . His shock was bent almost do u ble , and bo th forks were stuck d o wn an d refus ed to co me up again. This to o k care o f h is racing for th e day , bu t re pairs were m ad e that nigh t and he managed to pull o ut a first for Monday. The 125 Novice first m o t a found Dan ny Villopoto in first p lace un til he took a nasty fall coming o ff the jump. That caused him to lose too much time, but give it a try he did, to make for some pretty exciting racing. Monday's racing was on an even rougher track. The PP class started the action off again with Elaine Miller taking an easy first in the Women 's class, and Dona Bramlett jumping to a lead in the Girl s' class, which she held until she unloaded on the far downhill Helpful spectators helped he r regain her bike, and gave her a push, but not before she had lost two places to Barbara Stone (Han) and Te re sa Sample (Han). Lance Burgess took an early lead in the 12 5 junior/Expert class, holding it all the way . Everyone was disapp ointed to learn that Mel Sam ple had been scratc hed from the 125 j unior/Expert class, as he had tangle d wi th a do wned rider during pra ctice, cracking th e case o n his m o to r and ripping a fo o tp eg fr om his bike, along with a li ttle skin fro m his chest. Th e Op en Novice class gave Mik e Richter (CZ) an overall win after losin g out Sunday to Yamaha-m oun ted Wayne Regin a, when Mike 's p ipe fell off his bi b . • Res ults in Res ults Section. Sandhill MX By Steve Castillo - BRENTWOOD , CAL. , SEPT. 7 Dick Mann, on his trusty BSA once again dominated the 500 Pro class. Mann continues to amaze people with his super-aggressive riding style. Mike Cates (Yam) gave Dick a few problems, but it wasn ' t nothing Mann couldn't handle. Several riders in the 125 junior Division II had their own battle going. Dave Fuller (Han) p ul led a beautiful holeshot that vaulted him to the front, then pulled out about a five second lead o n everyone else. Meanwhile, back in the pack john Phelps (YZ) and Danny So uza (Han) were having it out, back and forth. Phelps see med to keep it on longer than Souza and he moved steadily away . Back further j im Vigil (Yam) and Gary Weber (Han) were also goin g at it like there was n o to morrow. Dave Fuller had a brush in with the good earth and dropped back to fifth place. Phelps moved into the lead and held it to the finish. Dan ny Souza was close behind in second and jim Virgil beat ou t Gary Webe r for third. Fuller again pulled out front in mota two with j ohn Phelps hot on h is tail. After a brief ba t tle Fuller pulled away from Phelps wh o h ad bike problems and dropped bac k.
