But this y ear at Irwindale, it didn 't work out that way . One reason is th at it was t he fin al tune-up before th e $ 17,5 00 CMC Night National Motocross se t fo r September 5. A lot of vacatio ns were delayed until Saturday to get in one last blast before th at frenzied night. Showing why he is the od ds on favorite in the 125cc Pros, David Taylor (Ho n ) cam e through with tw o moto victories an d a sec ond place in th e other to easily lock up th e overall win. Mark Lawr en ce (Hon) provided all the competition , winning the first and then following Taylor across twice more for the runnerup sflot. Three solid thirds by J im Domann (Hon) equaled the show money. Bill Ru bly (C-A) improved with e ach passing lap in the 250cc Pros and it resulted in his winning that class for only the second time this year her e. His three-two-one countdown bested Jeff Jennings (Bul) who tallied a second, a fourth and a second. Third went to Val Tamietti (Mai) with fourth being Jeff Vidic (Mai), who won the first two motos then finished I I th in th e third to slip out of co n tr o l. Rubly doubled up on the Maico and captured the 500cc Pros with close friend Luke Messer (Mai ) second. They traded firsts and seconds all night. Third was Charles Welk (Mai) . o z J :.: OJ J: I- Jennings and Ru bly ba ttled all night long with Je nnings finally getting the nod in the 250 Pro dass at Ascot. that checkered flag is in the air for the winner, Number 19 is the rust one there. Jennings won all three motos on the last lap after trailing Bill Rubly (C-A) in moto one action, and "J u mp in ' Joe" Johnston (Oss) in the second con test. In moto three. Rubly had the lead with Johnston second, Dave Pessy [Mon] third and J ennings fourth. By the second lap Jennings had moved to second and eyed the Can - Am rider, Rubly. Jennings and Rubly then diced through the lakes with Jennings pushing his way into the lead. For the record: Jennings, Rubly and Johnston. • Resul ts in Results Section. The 125 Pros h ad quite a Professional line-up. Into the rust off camber tum , Jeff Bunn., Jim Domann, Mike Bell, Mark Tyer, Chuck and Tim Lunde and Mark Lawrence were lined up like dominoes. The lead went to Bunn with Mike Bell ch asing, eventually passing and winning the first moto, In round two Bell began to pu ll away from the other competitors, but J im Domann held on to a very strong second place. By the second lap , Bell had a giant lead with Mark Lawrence, equipped with yellow seat, in pursuit but unable to catch Bell. Bell won going away with Lawrence second and Bunn third. Jim Domann won moto three , but it was not enough to gather the overall victory because Bell finished right behind him. When the gate drops in the 250 Pro class, you can count on Jeff J ennings to be in third or fourth place. But, when ADELANTO, CAL ., A UG. 24 Hometown hotshoes kept som e o f the 40 % brass at 395 Cycle Park MX Sunday. Yamah a mounted Tim Tope ed ged out 15 o ther 125 Beginners with three first s on the mile co urse. Neighbor St eve Byrd drove his Suzuki to third spot in 100 Beginners with two thirds and a fifth . Local lad Geo rge Sio ss showed the hopeful heroes how it was done in 25 0 Novi ce act io n by copping third aboard a CZ. Putting Victorville in the winner's circle was "good old Charlie" Mazzei edging out fo ur other trophy winners in 125 Novice compe ti tio n. Charlie figured he had his work cut out for him when Jim Sendleback drove in from Palmdale. Jim had two firsts to Chrlie's two seconds until the third mbto when Jim's fifth place gave a first overall to Charlie. Pushing for a hard th ird was Honda mounted Alan Hoover from Palmdale. The 125 Beginne rs h ad a battle for the six trophies. ' Tied for second place overal l were Ridgecrest race r Steve Ernest and California City's Bernard Un fassobiscay ("Bernie" to us tongue-tied, ignorant friends). Bernie's third in the last rnoto to Steve's fifth gave Bernie the second ove rall . When the green flag fell in the last 100 Novice moto it was Steven Oldfield and Lancaster's Rick Guilmette ea ch with a first and a second. Steve sailed to first with Andrew Jefferson from z o :.: u C[ , III :-~ W I- et Z Victorville getting it all together in the last moto for a second and Rick taking the hard luck and a fifth spot in the last moto for a second overall. • Resul ts in Resul ts Section. AMC action By Ernest Coleman EAST I RV INE, CAL., AUG. 27 As sum mer comes to a slow end, Al\IC action is just getting started at OCIR. T om Hernandez (Hon), who has been running hot all summer in the Mini Beginner class, took home the overall win for the night with Richard O'Brien (Yam) and Kim Apling (Hon) in second and third. To m had a h ard ti me of it in the second moto, but it was the third round that was the toughest, Hernandez had to fight off a young lady by the name of Kim Apling. Kim won the rust moto and came in third In the second moto . At the dip of the date Kim was out in fron t with To m right behind. It was a race long battle that ended on the last lap with Kim getting off and Hernandez going on for the win. The 100 Junior saw Jonny Clopton take all three motos with Mike Palumbo O&B) and Jeff Bradshaw (Hon) following close behind. Clopton (Hon) made it look easy in the rust two m o tos but in the third race he had to fight off Palum bo and Bradshaw. Clopton got out of the gate rust with Bradshaw and Palu m bo on his tail. Going into the rust two laps Clopton held his on, then Bradshaw tried to make a move but Clopton held him off. Palumbo tried to pass and took over the lead. Clo pton held off Bradshaw and both riders chased Palu mbo. Going to the last lap Clopton and Bradshaw passed Palu mbo to finish one-two. • Results in Results Section . Hacks grand finale By Barbra Brown MOORPARK, CAL., AUG. 17 The 10 race series of the Side Hack Association ended Sunday with two 20 minute motos . There were 13 side hacks with eight heavyweight and five lightweights. j
