It also gave the whoop-de-doers a wat er h azard th at co uld have been classified as a lake , placed directly in fro nt of a very sharp right-hander which needless to/ say was the hot spot of the track. Mark Force (Yam) grabbed the lea d when the Open Junior Division II ra ce hit the track. with Husky-m ounte d Tom Church in hot pursuit. Force hel d th e lead for three laps when he bobbled, so Church took over th e chore o f leadin g. Jeff Lessley (Ha n) settled a dispute with the rest of the Junior over who should be in third and began the long ride to battle with the leaders. Starting th e last lap . Lessley got a break when Force goofed again in tum one. Church kept the lead for the win while Lessley led Force across the line for second. Second moto ac tio n saw Church being pressured by Lessley on his fo ur-stro kin , Honda the entire race. Lessley took the lead on lap four but lost control a few seconds later and returned the lead to Church, This also put Force in second and Rodney . Lessley th ird. Church and Force diced it out the remainder of th e rac e but it was Church once again winning an d taking the overall. Larry Pasquini (Ho n) took a photo fmish victory in th e 12 5 Junior Divisio n I wh ile Dewayne Miller (Yam) to o k th e win in Division II. Ridgerunners Semi-Pro MX By Gerry Reagan All the heavies in 250 Expert crowd into Santa Cruz' first turn. Ron Self (x1401Ieads. pressured by McDannald (number hidden) as Roush. Longmire. Longcor and Rapp (among others) look for a hole. WATSONVILLE. CAL, AUG . 10 Danny "Magoo" Chandler (Yam) started off the day's racing in spectacular fashion as he ran off with the first 125 Expert moto. Larry Wosick (21s) and Mike Contreras have a good thing going in 250 Novice Div. I. while somebody in the background decided to take a snooze in the grass . Turning lap times better than many of . the 250 Experts. he ended up with a 20 second lead at the finish . Eric Harvey (Yam) put in a good ride for second with Cloyse Holland (Suz) charging hard at the end of the moto to take third. Magoo had it a little harder in the second moto after coming out of the lust tum in fifth. but when they came around again he was up in to third and working his way towards leader Mike Marquez (Hus). On lap four Magoo took over the lead with Holland righ t on h is tail and the two began a real duel. Coming out of the back section Holland slipped past Magoo but on the next lap he went off the back straight and ended up in the weeds giving Ma~oo the mota. Harvey and Mike Amaral (Hon) weren't far behind this time following Magoo across the line for second and third. Holland got back on his bike and got a sixth for a fifth overall. The 250 Expert race was another crowd pleaser with Tom Rapp (BuI) taking the lead in the first mota followed closely by Neil McDannald on a Noguchi (Yam). McDannald l!0t by on lap five while Dave Longcor (Hus) was steadily moving up from a fifth place start. Longcor got by Rapp on the ninth lap and took after MeDannald, squeezing I:!y at the end of the moto to take first. Charlie Halcomb put in a good consistent ride to take fourth on a Husky. The second moto saw Ron Self (Hus) take the lead with McDannald right behind him. McDannald got by on the third lap and all of a sudden Dave Longcor was on his tail again. On th e next lap Longcor got past McDannaid and began to stretch out a lead but on lap five he dropped it in a tight off-camber tum allowing McDannaid and Rapp to get by.
