After two restarts and one four-bike pileup in the first right-hander Derek Land (Yam) , who went down hard in the mishap, lost no time taking the 200cc Expert le ad. Aaron Hun ter though t he had it sewed up but Steve Boswell (Yam ) came up from behind and surprised Hunter making him the hunted. Castle Rock TT scrambles draws the bikes By Liz Swanson CASTLE ROCK, WASH., AUG. 1 A sportsman rider's dream is to ride the track the Pros do. They got their chance at the opening Amateur race at Castle Rock. The first IT scrambles race drew 139 bikes, and some of the Northwest 's finest sportsmen riders. Jeff Celorie o f Portland, Oregon m ay have seen the ni gh t 's big winner, taking the 100cc and 200cc Trophy Dash , and winning the 100cc " A" Main. In the 200cc "A" Main, however, Bruce Scott (Bul ) of Kelso, Washington stopped Celorie by winning the Main with Celorie second. The Mini bike class was a clean sweep for Brett Barkman (Hon ) of Auburn, Washington. Barkman had to prove Friday night that his Honda was legal in a protest. The referee found the bike very legal. Bill Williams (Yam ) of Longview, Washington won the 125cc trophy dash and was determined to win the HAn Main to be come the class high point leader. Coming from a third row start he worked his way up to second. Making his bid for first place.. he crashed attempting to pass the leader, Mark Rooks of Auburn, Washington, going in to the dog leg. Bul taco-mounted Daniel Stanley took the 500cc Trophy Dash but had some competition in the Main . Danny Mahlen riding fast and close, captured the "A" Main with Stanley in for second. • Results in Results Section. , TT points windup By Lynne Diltz SUNNY VALLEY, ORE., AUG. 3 Ray Comer, smooth as ever, dialed his way to 500cc Expert laurels at Tulare TT. straight it was Sabrina on the Honda Red Baron cranking it on. Back in the pack after getting a bad start it was Tommy Hadlock making his bid and gaining on Sabrina. Hadlock finally caugh t up to her and th ey raced wheel to wheel in the comers and down the straights for three laps before Tommy found room to get by her and ta ke the win with Sab rina finishing second. In the 100cc Main it was a combined class of Novice, Junior and Expert riders. Off the line and into the comer it was the Novices in the lead but coming from a 20-yard handicap was C.B. The mini bike class looked like a carbon copy of last week. Brett Barkman (Hon) of Auburn, Washington seems to be unbeatable. . Kevin Bass (Yam) of Kelso, Washington took a 100cc Trophy Dash win. The big battle came in the Main with Bass winning out over last week's winner Jeff Celorie by only a few feet. J eff Fischer (Hon) made a clean sweep in the 125cc class. The action wasn't in the front of the pack, but in the middle where Bill Williams (Yam) was working his way up from last place to second. Bruce Scott (Bul) of Kelso, Washington fo und the 200cc Trophy Dash an easy win but the Main was a different story. Getting off in first, Scott had it made until Portland's Jeff Celorie (Bul) riding hard on .the last lap , coming out onto the straightaway, captured the win by on ly a few inches. 250cc action was close. Trophy Dash winner Dave Mazour (Hon) co uldn 't get the edge he needed being shut out by the top three riders. J o n Gladman (Hon) sho t into first place in th e Main with . , Eric Swanson (BuI) and Terry Weigand (Yam ) trailing. Ken Celorie (Yam ) with a Trophy Dash win to his credit had a battle with Auburn's Danny Mahlen (Hon) in the Main. Mahlen, last week's winner, repeated his 500cc win but had to ride hard to st ay out of the reach of Celorie, • Results in Results Section. Truckin' at Tulare By Cosm ic Cat TULARE, CAL., AUG . 2 District 35 riders turned out m full force Saturday nigh t here at the Tulare Fairgrounds to try their hand on the big TT course. There were plenty of spectators, and they maintained themselves beautifully, compared to a certain p art of the Porterville cro wd the night be fore. Craig Baird (Suz) wasted no time as he jumped into the lead in the 56- 89 cc , J unio rs and was . q ql~; until Mik e, The last point race of this TT season was a clear, hot day on a free 'n ' easy track with 121 riders. Going into the day's racin g there were still some high point spots in doubt and a few surprise upsets. The big weekend is co m ing up August 16 and 17, the 14th Annual Oregon State Championships at which time season trophies will be awarde d. One Open heat had Louie Booth, Randy Bigham, Frank Word, Jeff Campbell and Whitey Marks as the fron t five with Word and Campbell having a battle royal clear to the wire. Spectators were eagerly awaiting their A Main clash but fate took a hand. As the first two from each heat lined up for the TD, the flag dropped, bikes popped off the line and a loud snap was heard across the whole area. There sat Frank Word, still in starting position and still on the line. Scratch one engine. Mini buddy John Miller took a wicked hi-side in his heat and got a handlebar in the tummy . He recovered well - won the low Main and from a sec o n d row start in the B, worked his way to a Number Two trophy. The 250 class was one of those close in points between Medford 's Flyin' Brian ,
