" I wonder what our husbands will do when they co me around on their sec o nd loop an d see us here !" Whispe r wiped her eyes on her sleeve. "Some b o dy 's co mi n g! " "G ood. Act really forlorn , an d th ey'll h elp. " Lana didn't know if his surprised expression came fr om dis covering sh e w asn't a bo yar because th ey both a p p e a re d unha rm ed from th e en tanglemen t o f th eir b ikes. With much effort and h eavy breathing, he made i t to th e top and parked his bi ke . He d idn 't need an explanation. He came down to Whisper's bike , gras ped the bars and pushed it to the to p : By now his breathing had progressed to wh ee zing. He then, between gasps of air, offered to wait for Lana and see is she needed help up the hill. Lana, not wanting to be responsible for his possible coronary, said, "I'm going to ride around the hill. I'll catc h up with y o u later, Whisper." Lana slid . down the hill , alternating between he r feet and her bottom. She rode alongside the m oun ta in range un til she foun d an opening . It led t o a fire ro ad . She rode it in the directio n she wan ted to go an d then decided to cu t ove r to wards the course agai n . A bike was comi ng u p fast behin d her. She glanced back and saw a rider wearing ablazer of the clu b promoting th e race . He came u p besid e her. "Hey , son you're off course!" uWhat ?" BANG! her again. " Well...what are y o u going to do? Sh e asked fidgeting nervousl y . "Have y o u ever been towed?" He asked in a tone that meant sh e had better say yes. " Why? My bike runs." "You can not tow me. I will not let y ou to w me . Therefore , I will tow you with y o ur bike and y o u will sit on mine and hang on. " She thought he was still a little upset. He tied his ro pe to the b ikes an d gave her detailed instructions. When the ro pe was taut they began to move. Lana was jerky at first but they managed to travel twenty feet before she let the rope sag an d wrap aro un d h is forks. Han k un tangled th e rope an d gave her a review of the instructio ns she received fro m h im just sixty seconds before . T hey trie d it again. He went slow enough for her, but she h ad no idea he 'd be angling off for a right t um. She pu t her leg out thinking she was going to go ove r.
