Th e Handicap Main was different and exciting. It started on a sour note wh en J an Ballard an d Bru ce Penhall tangled in a severe first-lap cr ash . Ballar d broke his fo rearm and Penhall ne eded seven stitches to close a wo und. Neither restarted, obvio u sly . Bu t when the res tart did come, it was a delightful race th at h ad the crowd screaming. Dubb Ferrell and Mike Bast were going all out from the 4Q-yard line and for the full five laps th ey stayed side by sid e ! Ferrell got the win, and not far back in third was another back-yardage rac er , Mike Curoso. Consolation ac tio n found Rick Woods taking the Scratch racing all the way. Scott Sivadge got the lead early in the Handicap Con sy and stayed there to th e very en d. Sonny Nu tter collected second. Woods fell on the th ird lap and did no t fin ish . Division 11 racin g saw Gene Woods triumph over Crai g Bradley, Stu Egli, Brad Bewell, Mike Bendy and Craig Sch aefer. Divisi on III winners were Joe Harold and Dan Sch oen. The Match race was taken by Northern California's Rich McMurray over Billy Gray , 2-0.
