Th is time at the sharp left hander it was Bell /O 'Conner taking th e lead on their 750 Honda Wasp . Battling right in there were Ridyard/Vermeesch and Bertus/Aston. Before the first lap was over the 750 Kawasaki h ad taken over the lead and Ward /DeParris h ad moved into third. Palfreyman /G ardener had started to move up and were running in fourth . On ce again machines started to drop out due to mechanical difficulties. Holland/Harris broke the frame on their 360 Yamaha an d the 360 Bultaco of Brown/Barada had broken a sh ock on the hack. They were ab le to repair the damage and were bac k in there racing. By the end of the second mota Palfreyman/Gardener had once again' taken over the lead. Monahan /Orsdal e were holding down a d istan t second and Bell /O'Conner were hanging in third. Immken /Nelson had pushed their 500 Yamaha up to fini sh fourth overall against a to ugh field of competitors. • Resul ts in Results Sec tion . Amate ur/E xpert IT with a nag to n ag lea d. Don Frau en berger made o ne of his not too frequen t trips to Co ro na and wo wed the Op en Expert 750cc half-mile b oys with his to tal com m an d from st art to fin ish . Tom Worfolk an d j ack Lampton were di cing it up wi th so me handlebar knoc kin g and ben d ing o n t he straights. It must have been t o o mu ch for J ack as he fell back and let Tom have second and Gary Whit e th ird . Dee Toth got h is graduation papers as he literally blew the doors off the boys in th e Op en Novice IT. Larry McCaul h ad th e problems as he had some co m motio n goin g on beh ind him from Dave Destl er and Ray Lovell. Ray won the battle in th at one but d id n 't hav e time to catch Larry. In the Open Novi ce IT, the Koogle Family m ade a sandwich of Ray Lovell with Dan (Han) ta ki ng the win an d Martin (Han) taking third. It was a lm ost a o ne- t wo fin ish fo r them, but Ray pulled off one o f h is co me fr om beh ind numbers and broke it up. Mike Stewart an d Ro ger Du fu r were f- >C( :I: Z o ... Mike t op ped off the evening with an easy win over Dave johnson and Don Waffle in the 250cc Expert half-mil e Twin. In the Main Eddy was o ut on top , b ut th en disaster st ruc k : Ed dy went from first to last. Do rothy Ro we t ook o ver the lead an d Mike Min n ing came fr om fourth to take over secon d p lace. Fro m seco nd , Mike started to put th e pressure on and it fina lly p aid o ff as he m ade his pass on lap four of the five lap Main and went on to win . Ro n T urn er (C-A) pu t up a good b attle with Tessito re but co uld n ' t get by fo r the win. T he 25 0 In termed iates came on and pu t on a good sho w wi th Car lo s Con treras (Yam ) ta king an early lead an d stre tc hi ng it o u t so t ha t eve n tho ugh he too k a sp ill , he st ill ha d time to rem oun t and tak e th e win . Next on th e lin e were t he 25 0 Pro s with J im my Martin (CZ) getting the holesho t and Randy Bums (Yam) no t t oo far beh ind. Burns fin all y caugh t Martin and won the first 25 0 Pro race wit h Mike Steams (Ma n) taking th ird. The 50 0 Pro class had a surprise entry . Lars Lar sson (C·A), former world class rider, ca me o ut an d put on a good sh ow with a third overall for t he night. Supe r-shoe Ken Frost (Pen) took th e win in the first mo ta and Gary St an d rid ge (Mo n ) grabbed a very healthy second. In termission came o n an d th e track was still moist and 100 king goo d for th e sec o nd ro und of th e evening. The 12 5 Pros too k o ff with Ken Frost (Suz ) ~tting the hol esh o t and Ron T u rne r (C-A ) findi n g himself toward s the back o f t he p ack. Kurt held his lead fo r a lap , as the bigger an d faster 10 0s got by. Pete Hille brech t (Ha n) and In t e rm ediat e TIm Murp hey (Han) fough t it o ut th ro ugho ut th e three motos, no farther th an a few bikes' lengths apart a t all times.
