John again had the fans gasping with his tank slapp ing broad slides but try as he might, he was unable to catch Upton. The 250 Expert Scratch event was a crowd p leaser with Shane Seott (Yam back from a broken foot) holding off J im Hubbard (Yam ) and Cliff Hylton (Yam ) un til the white flag lap . Then Hu bbard got a wheel by him and both Hubbard and Hylton slipped by for the first and second honors. In the 200cc Handicap Main, Dave Koistinen (Bul) got the hole shot and was ab le to stay out in front while the rest of the pack battled for positi ons. Tom Green (Yam) picked up second and Dan Fowl er (Yam) squeezed by Rick Perez at the checker to take third. The 360cc Handicap was 12 laps of trading positions between Steve Deitz (Bul ), Dick Turner (Yam), and Mike LupoId (Yam ). Deitz eventually got out in fro nt and held it until the end. Steve's spe ctacular wheelie finish of the evening backfired when he looped down the fro nt straightaway. but he bounced back to pick up hi s first place trophy with a big smile and only a bent handlebar. • Results in Results Section. Trac k man Herb Ho ok worked long hours d ur ing the wee k and his efforts bro ugh t a .~i?e grooved and tacky surface for au crasses, The Lodi club has really gotten their act together this year to run a raceable track and a q uick, smooth program . Novice events were highlighted by a wheel to wheel battle in the 80 class, a str o n g pass in the Mini Open division, an d a strong charge in the 200 class . Honda racers John Rabideau and Tray Hays ch ased Kevin Grabell (Yam ) for the entire 80 Novice Main but were unable to p ower by as Kevin rode a flawless race. Less than a bike 's length separated th e three at the finish . Lodi's Fred Winters streaked h is way past Modesto 's Mark Silvas through the pit t um and made Junior the following night a t Oakdale aboard a 100 Honda. Rick Rose and Skip Lewis usually battle it out in the 200 class and this evening was no exception as both heat and Main were a battle. Rose worked his way from the penalty line while Ski p
