Spe nce r FREMONT , CAL., J UNE 7 Kim Jorgensen came a little closer to being number one in Black Plat e p oints for D-36, winning both the 250 and 500 Expert Mains. Th e 25 0 win came in front of arc h-riva l Dave Burton and between th e two the y make up the second and third pl ace point hunters be h ind Duan e Spence. In th e 500 Main Kim had his troubles with John Helbo but the smooth Yamaha rider couldn't quite get hi s act together after a crash into his brother-in-law earlier. Jorgy's 400 Suzuki made it a two-for-two night. Flashing third was Steve Eklund riding his co w trailer with trials tires and neat slides. What with little or no pro ra cing on the West Co ast, the kid has to keep busy , you know. Mike Kalamaras made a rare ap pear an ce and made it worth the trip by winning the 650 Expert over Rick Otto who chased well but couldn't catch . John Tavis passed Bobby Mast ers at the close for third. Jim Carlisle (Yam) made it look easy in the 650 Novice winning by a straight. The former Marathoner is firmly ensconsed in flat tracking, beating out Tom Petersen and a growing group of 4 0 inchers, It 's still Honda heaven in th e 500 Junior class and the BG Pizza mob did it again copping the first two while loner Mike Starnes (CZ ) took third behind winner Lynn George and Errol Longboya but the game plan was fo r Longboya to win . Chuck Foster had an eas y time of it for five of six laps and then Vince Holder got around with apparent ease to win the 200 Novice Main. • Results in Results Section. Oakdale closes rough season By Ann Carr OAKDALE, CALIF., MAY 25 Jerry Griffith's Pioneer Arena closed out its rough scrambles season today as 193 diehard open traction racers competed on a 32 surprisingly good track for a May which has already presented several weeks 01 85 plus degrees. The outstanding ride 01 the day was turned in by 125 Junior riders Rodney Greener of Oakdale and Mike " Loo k Back" Inderbitzen of Modesto, both aboard Hondas, Rodney scooted out front in the Main and led Mike for a merry chase for the full ten lap event. Inderbitzen tried horsepower down the straight and inside-outside in the turns, but could never over-come the smooth ride of Greener. In the Novice ranks Lenny Goodrich o f Modesto rode his Suzuki to a win over three other competiciors in the heavily entered 250 Noviee class. Frank Hannah , Robert Dunn, and Matt Blake charged hard for second with Hannah followin g his 125 win with the second in the 250. Dunn and Blake followed in that order. Double winner in the Novi ce class was mini graduate from Escalon Dwayne Ellis who skated a Suzuki an d a Yamaha to wins in both the 100 and 17 5 mains. Expert racing featured con fusio n in the 250 class , the return of "Torco" in the 125 , and new winners in the 80. Motocross Expert Mike Jennings aboard a Jorgy's Can-Am inherited first place o fficially in th e 250 Main when leader Alan McGehee wired the righthander too fast and missed the jump. Meanwhile th e rest of the p ack fared no better as third pla ce man J ohnny Pillman also mi ssed the course an d to avoid c rashi ng , Alex Jorgensen stopped o f th e jump. O fficial s lat er disqualified McGehee an d Pittman and awarded sec o nd to J orgy because he re-en tered the co urse wher e he ha d ex ited, t he refore n o t techn ically missing th e j ump. FREMONT, CAL., J UNE 4 Pat McCaul and Erv Kanem oto go t together one o f th e super 350 Kawasakis th at ran a t the Astrodome, detuned it all to pieces and rode away with the 360 Expert Main . Immediately after the race it went away with Hank Rivera who liked it enough to bu y it . McCaul easily outdistanced the field , beating Mike Fari a and Steve Carrillo b y a straight. Scott Pearson came off the back row to finish a good fourth and still maintain a firm grip on the top position in Fremont High point. Rich Delacy proved why he got the number one plate this year wi th a good 250 Expert win over road racer Pat Hennen and much-improved Jim Mertens. Ronnie Rohr made it a two for two night winning both the 125 and 175 Novice Mains. His Novice days are definitely numbered. Louie Mazur chased Rohr in the 125 with Marlon ' Folde n chasing hi m . Scot Garcia got a bit sideways off the slick tum two and gave the win to Rohr in the 175. Ligh tning Larry Krusemann diced heavily with ' Do ug Chandler once again and pulled out the win in 80cc Expert mini action with Torrey Arguello continuing his winning ways in 80 Junior. Bobby Agness beat out Glenn Davis in the little 60 class but for Davis it was an empty second as his Junior card is on the way. • Results in Results Section. A year of trials at Gunn High Henry M. Gunn High School o f Palo Alt o just wrapped up the first motorcycle trials class cosponsored by the P.E, and Driver Education Departments. 233 students participated in the program under the direction of Clay Henry , who doubles as Head Wrestling and Ass istan t Track coach. Twenty-three girls entered the program with all but two being rank .begirmers, The clas ses were taugh t in six wee k units with 15 class meetings of on e and one-half hours. The classes include te chniques, and at least three cla ss sessions were devoted to general maintenance. Three d ifferent level s wer e tau ght the beginners (ne ver rode before), intermediate and advanced. During the year m an y students repeat ed and some students were able to schedule into the beginners, in termediates an d th en th e ad vanced class . The Sp okebenders, th e trials club, gained many members from these classes and the club put on two dual h igh school meets, one triangle and hosted the First A n nual Gunn High No rthern Californ ia Championship here o n the Gunn camp us. Plans are being made for 1975-76 school year with all the classes being concentrated into the second half of the year. Three classes will be taught daily for 18 weeks. Much credit for the program must be given to the farsightedness of Principal George Miller and Robert Bow , P.E . Dire ctor. Bikes were loaned to the school by lo cal dealers which included two Yamahas and two Montesas plus two Bultacos owned by the instructo r. • Longcor, Magoo take double wins Tom (4 59) Harringto n an d Mac Proffitt (125 Kevin Henry (Bul ), showed up in second twice in this class too. AI Hall (Hon) deserves mention for keeping himself between Magoo and Henry for all but the last two laps of the first moto when he got the "blues" and couldn't finish . • Results in Results Section. By Sallee Hilt o n Hambelton and Michlitch duel it out BRYTE, CAL. , JUNE 1 B Jan Newman y Dave Longcor (Hus), Kevin Henry (Bul) and Alex Jorgensen (C-A), top three 250 Experts, cashed in one, two, three for two nearly duplicate motos, marred only by their reversed order off the line in the first rnoto, None of the top fin ishers had managed a hole shot, the first one going to Mike Jennings (e-A) with Jorgensen, Henry and Longcor righ t behind him. Scott Henry (Bu!), Kevin's "little brother, " in his first ride as an Expert, snatched the second hole shot and fought so hard to keep it that he crashed in th e first lap and was a dead last 19th in the second lap. Riding like . he 'd been coached by his brother brought him up to a 10th place finish after a first round ninth for seventh overall . The distance between th e Longcor IK. Henry race and the rest of the p ack co n t in ued to wid en as man y of the riders tired on the tight co urse which was getting deeply rutted in spite of, or be eause of, the new addition of tons of rice hulls being plowed in the day before. ' Fourteen-ye ar-old Danny "Magoo " Chandler, seen for th e first time o n a 125 Yamaha Monoshock, cleaned up on the 125 Expert cla ss way o u t in front of bo th motos. When as ked what he intended to do with his winnings, !\Iagoo said " get my Dad's woo den leg o u t of hock." WASHOUGAL, WASH. , JUNE 8 Lots of good racing at Washougal today, but the high spot came in the first 125 In termediate group, In the first moto Tim Michlitch (Hon) got an incredible jump off the line. Mark Hambelton (Hon) came out in the middle of the paek and began to pick his way through. By the time Mark moved into second Tim had command of a lot of territory. Mark had just abo ut chewed it all up at the flag. TIm got the lead again in round two but Mark was right behind him. They ran the moto extremely close - often side by side - until Mark took the lead in the last co up le of laps. TIm kept right on him until he slid out on the last lap. They were so far out front he had ample ., time to restart without losing his position. Mark won the 250 Intermediate brass with a little more ease . Top 125 Pro money went to Randy Limbeck with a wire -to-wire win in the first race. John Atwood chased him all the way . Atwood took the lead in the second moto but resorted to the chasing position at the halfway point when Limbeck got by. The 250 Juniors really tangled. Jerry Miller (CZ) won the first race and got involved in a chai n collision on 'the second scra tc h . Instinctively he grabbed up the bike to try to ge t it go ing again
